So disappointed, but not surprised, that the Bill is now not going to help us families/friends finding ourselves in this mess. My ex was subject to vigilante sting, which was live-streamed. Everyone says this is wrong, but no one is stopping it. My MP was hopeful that the new amendments would stop this under 'inciting hate', but no! Please please please, when you feel strong enough, contact your MPs, they will keep your information confidential, to let them know what damage is caused through social media in all our situations.

These vigilante groups are terrible, they claim they're saving children but no consideration for families and actual children that will be affected. The only reason they do these stings is for their egos!!

my husbands case isn't to do with a vigilante group but I feel so sorry for everyone whose was. My husband was arrested in June for iioc from an intelligent package not quite sure what that is, he was on a app called kik.

im so scared about this hitting the media and I'm trying everything I can to try stop it getting out. I have 2 children in primary and secondary so this getting out will massively affect them. I don't understand why they can protect children that commit crimes but not protect children whose parents commit crimes.

It's disgusting that they are not held accountable,

We had the knock so not live streamed but my sons case was reported on social media etc

Our offenders are serving their punishment and have to live with their actions for years to come, but so do we and yet we have done nothing wrong

I wrote to my local MP and not a single reply as yet

Everyone in government wants to bury their heads but we have no control, no say in this but yet it's acceptable for us to be punished our worlds are torn apart, for those who have young children where is the support, I do not for one second condone what our loved ones have done, but why are we not considered in all of this?

Shocking

Hi all,

My 23yr old son was stung by Vigilantes last April. He has autism , wanted a friend apparently and ended up communicating with a 13 yr old (originally said 18yr old)

He told them early on he had autism and they just carried on and kept re contacting him. Whole thing only lasted less than 1 wk. Banging on door and all our neighbours doors and asked Police if they could carry on filming from their phones . Police let them as long as they weren't on it. I still can't believe the whole thing actually happened. Now bail cancelled and Rui .
Stuck in limbo. Too traumatised to chase police. I've tried deleting his fb account but he can't remember pw and no way of recovering it through email.
I don't know how we've got this far without cracking up !

Upsetmum, keep on at your MP. My letters had no effect, I managed to get a private appointment to see mine, and he could see me, a person, in front of him, telling him my story, that had an impact on him. It took a lot for me to do that, but I'm pleased I did.

Winnie, your family should not have had to go through that. My ex was stung some miles away, thank goodness, but Facebook livestream and as a result people were adding address, name, my name, our car reg, and our physical movements! It was terrifying. Nothing physically bad happened but the impact on me and my neighbours was massive...how can that ever be acceptable, but in the police's eyes it was! I was put on quick response list, but even that action made me more terrified!

I agree with all your comments. I will continue to campaign, or else what positives can come out of my ordeal? xx

Hi all,

Just out of curiosity has anyone gone to the media themselves (anonymously of course also pretty sure they would have to keep your anonymity) and said your side of the story?

Explain about LFF what they do and what our persons generally tend not to actually be aka 'P'.

Actually I really wish LFF would step up and explain what they do to the media so others can find them easily (took me weeks to find them) and maybe educate the general population including the vigilantes that just because some one has done this crime doesn't make them the 'P' word and what the vigilantes have done to many families out there who's persons have been "stung".

Hopefully the media would listen to LFF I know they would listen to you. You never know it might change a few things with regards to laws and what these egotistical vigilantes get away with. Sorry for instance some of the people they sting they confront at their home, like how on earth do they get that information? Or how do they know someone's actual name, surely most use another name. I don't know just spitballing. Went off on a bit of a tangent my mind is a bit all over the place atm.

My MP sucks badly, tried to contact this person several times in the past about serious issues and this MP never helps or responds. Therefore I haven't approached to say anything, but know it will just be ignored.

If one did it maybe others would come forward, there are hundreds if not thousands of families affected by these vigilantes, they need to be stopped

Morning all - I think people don't fight back is fear. I with all of you have suffered dreadfully because of this crime and a loved one being labelled etc. Plus of course, the victims are young children/adults.

I'd love to voice my opinion. But now it's all settled the last thing personally I want to do is rake it all up again and get a finger pointing at us, that would take one brave person to take on that helm. I would be hesitant even to contact an MP. This forum is my only outlet, which has given me tremendous comfort.

With other crimes you can fight back but this is such a hated, dispised, misunderstood crime - sadly you do your best to hide it and hope people simply just leave you alone. The other side of the coin is obviously if no one fights against it the situation won't change!

I find it so wrong you as victims don't really have a voice in this - which to me is scary and very very wrong in this day and age.

A lady did write an open letter to the press and others have shared it with their local press.

You can read it here.

And there was a more balanced article written here. I wrote a long email to they journalists thanking him and anonymously telling my story. I've not yet sent it. I'm a bit scared. But I will write and express my gratitude for sharing a balanced story.

I was given details of Stop It Now/LFF by the police. Our police have a special unit for these crimes and I wonder if that makes the difference. It'd be good if all partners/parents were given one of their booklets.

There is another thread under The Media, called Dear Journalist, which you might find useful Dragonmama.
