10 days on since the knock and I’ve told the schools, been visited by social workers, told a few supportive friends, changed my will and initiated divorce proceedings. Action is the beat medicine for me and actually schools have been supportive and not that shocked.. they say they get this a lot.

Neither me or or the husband have much online presence but never else’s we live in a small town and my only thought is protecting me and kids. Have told husband to give his new address for all court and police purposes and I’ve removed our names from any online searchable directories such as 192.com. I’ve also deleted all of our social media accounts (not that I used them much anyway).

Now.. with regard to name changes-when? He has moved out and will be changing his name (as will his parents). I want to change our names too. Easy for me and kids as I can simply explain that I’m going back to my maiden name because of the divorce. But is it best to do this pre trial and any publicity? It would be awful to change names and then have your new name linked to the story. Youngest is starting secondary school anyway in September so for me it makes sense to do to do it ASAP.

ive cleaned my house from top to bottom. It’s cathartic. Back to work on Monday which is so inportant now that he might go to jail.

Is your surname unusual? Are you certain he will be charged and it is of media interest? Not all cases even make it into local papers. If you are moving away a change of name may feel better but If you are staying where you are anyone who knows him will still know you are all related whether you change your name or not. Those who don't know you won't know who you are or were you live and may not take any interest in any of it. It's a personal choice about changing names but it may not be necessary at all.

Scared and sickened - how did you get your name removed with 192? It has always been an issue for me that my name is connected to him still because of this despite our different surnames.

Thanks, Rosa

Hi Rosa

I took all the steps in this link plus google takedown requests for any outdated photos for dead sites that still had our details. There are lots of steps anyone can take to reduce their digital footprint so I’m doing all of those.
