Hi,

Just being curious what other people's timelines were. My husband was arrested in July this year for making/distributing indecent images and has since been released under investigation.

It's been over 5 months now and we haven't heard back yet.

How long did it take other people from the knock until court?

I just want this nightmare to be over. We have 2 small children under 3 years as well and I am suffering every day.

I don't know if it makes any difference how quickly we get the results, but we are in a large city in England and my husband has provided all the pin numbers and passwords to the police (3 mobile phones were sent off for further forensic examination, all other electronic devices were returned to us).

Thanks in advance for your feedback x

Hi,

we had the knock sept 2021 and my husband is being sentenced on Thursday. Trouble is it's hard to say as I know people have gone through the process quicker than us and some even longer. It's hard, for I was left with 3 children youngest being 5. Luckily for me husband was allowed home dec 2021 as I proved I was able to supervise all contact and wrote up a safety plan plus police was rejected an extension on his bail.

all I can say Is look after yourself, make sure you try and get you time. You will get through this x

@Mumof3girls

Thank you for your reply. It seems to be very arbitrary how long it takes.

I wish you all the best for Thursday, stay strong xx

Thank you Hun, this forum has been brilliant for support and knowledge. I didn't find this forum right at the beginning when I needed it the most but it is extremely helpful and nice to know your not alone.

Unfortunately they don't consider the impact it has on us and our children without their dad around. Look after yourself and know you are strong enough to get through this x

We had the knock June 21 oh was sentenced a few weeks ago so just under 18 months from Start to finish. I at the time also had 2 of 2 and under it was really hard it still is I've had to do everything mostly alone although he luckily was allowed supervised visits as much as we wanted we still are going with this rule atm as ss haven't closed the case

My husband was arrested in March 2021 for possession of IIOC. 3 mobile phones were sent for further examination, the rest of the devices returned within a week.

I don't know how dependent it is on the police force/area, but we are in the South/South-East and currently still RUI. The solicitor has chased a few times but always gets the same response of "we are working on it but are very busy so can't give a timeframe".

So for us I'm afraid we haven't reached sentencing yet - it's been 21 months and counting.

Hiya

My person's knock was June 2020 and he was sentenced in May 2022, it was a long 23 months but some of the delay was Covid related I guess.

It doesn't seem that the police have any urgency with this crime or there are so many offenders due to other mitigating factors they cannot check all devices etc. Who knows.

Fingers crossed you won't have to wait much longer x

11 months from day of arrest to day of sentencing. Stopitnow are giving a rough guideline of 8-12 months now. In our situation the police only had to send one mobile phone to forensics and it still took almost a full year. So I would say if they need to send away more than one device it could take longer.

Like you, we also had no word from police since arrest last December to when the solicitor received the evidence from forensic report at the beginning of September. Then everything happened very fast after that.

The long wait is for evidence from forensic report on the device(s). End of September was the plea hearing after reading evidence report with solicitor and then middle of November was the sentencing.

So basically 9 months of torture just waiting for one phone to be analysed and then all done 2 months after that. Xx

@Christmas Chaos

Thanks for your informative reply. I hope you got a good outcome at sentencing.

Our solicitor said it's a computer programme that searches the devices for indecent images. It's not like somebody is sitting there manually searching the phones.

I think the whole process of searching the phones is probably a relatively quick procedure. The delay is probably caused by the huge number of devices they have to search.

Replying as my partners timings are so similar to those mentioned in Daffodils post.

We had the knock on 22nd March, his devices were taken and we heard nothing else until the 14th June when devices were returned. He was asked to go in for a 'voluntary interview' on 27th June, which he did. There he was presented with evidence and advice to speak to stop it now. Plea hearing was then arranged for 13th December but the day before, a letter came through to say the hearing had been adjourned because of strikes. The new plea hearing is scheduled for 27th January. So far its taken 10 months and it has been hell not knowing what will happen next. Im assuming there will be another hearing after hes pleaded guilty to decide on sentencing etc? So i know it might not be over for a while yet.

Hi Sunflow3r,

Yes, if he is pleading guilty there will be a date given for sentencing. Please find further guidance on the forum in regards to letter to the judge/character references etc. which may potentially help the judge to be more lenient. After pleading guilty he will need to sign on the SOR at the local Police station so please ask the solicitor to clarify this and the timeframe (I think it's 3 days). Hope all goes okay x

OH arrested Tuesday, then charged on Wednesday, plea on Thursday, placed on remand and then sentenced two weeks later, so all done in three weeks. Plea hearing so my OH had been all of those things before I even got to speak to him. Devices took five months to come back. Due to this he did not challenge anything so got charged for loads he did not do. So speed is not always a good thing. He pleaded guilty but also pleaded guilty to things he did not do as he was told if he did not he would stay in prison while they waited for a court date. He was only held on remand because he threatened his own life.

Communication from the police in between these dates was virtually non existent.

Hi
this is my first time on this forum...

My husband and I had just married 3 months before!

We had The Knock 30 Dec 2021 it was such a shock! My husband had 9 things taken from the house. We have heard nothing yet 15 months....

His solicitor is hoping to get in touch with the police to find out what's going on, apparently there's a back log! The solicitor has said he needs to prepare himself to be called in to speak with the police...!
Has anyone had the same experience as us and if so were they charged?
I think my husband is in denial.

thank you...x

6 months from start to finish for us. I know some people have been waiting years. It's a lottery.
Please keep emailing the oic to ask for an update and say how much it's affecting day to day life and mental health x

Kit,

Sorry you have joined us here. The solicitor is correct but only if anything is found on any of the devices he will be called in for a second interview to discuss what has been found - no matter how informal it's made out to be please ensure your husband has legal representation before he speaks to them. There are a lot of people waiting ridiculous amounts of time and it doesn't necessarily mean that there's loads to be found or nothing to be found, they just take their sweet time! Hope you're doing okay xx

almost a month to the day from the day of the knock my OH got devices back and said no further action being taken. was arrested for a small number cat b images found on his dropbox account but not 'young' children and nothing found on his devices so police basically said it's not worth bothering with. guess them being busy worked in our favour. he knows he's very lucky...

thoughts with everyone still going through it. was the worst month of our lives...i can't imagine how you're all feeling after a year and more

The police still have two devices that they haven't even looked at yet. My OH was sentenced in December.

I went to collect the other devices about 6 months after the knock.

the remaining two we had forgotten the passwords to, so they've gone somewhere else to be looked at.

The weekend after next will be our one year aniversary since our son's arrest and we embarked on our journey with Child Protection because of a situation with his ex. We are waiting to hear about an interim care order as i write this...and in the meantime we are still in the investigation stage although the OIC implies things are underway at every CP meeting since last year......

Have just seen you haven't had a reply from your message. What a nightmare for you! What I would say is question everything (or get your solicitor to) and don't let them get away with anything! If that's the case that you weren't even living at that address then, the police/CPS must have to provide solid evidence. Push your solicitor to question everything.
Good luck with court this month and keep us posted as to how you get on.

Knock and arrest Feb 2022, second interview March 24, file hasn't even been sent to CPS yet. Apparently 5 month wait for them to press charges. And on it goes. It's a complete sh!t show and meanwhile our lives are on hold. Unbelievable.....

I've returned to this post, think I commented in 2022 not sure!. Anyway my OH got the knock Jan 2021. He's had his sentencing relisted at least 5 times! Due this week if it doesn't get postponed. His first sentence hearing was October and it got cancelled and they've been postponed since then!. His plea hearing was June last year!. So he's been on the SOR since then!. It's an absolute farce, if they decide it's custodial I may stand up in court and argue with the judge!. He's been living at home carrying on as normal, full time job and we've basically been in this limbo this long so i will be so annoyed if they then decide he's such a danger to society and lock him up but he's ok to carry on living freely the last 3 years!. Sorry for the rant it just makes me so mad and frustrated!

I don't blame you for being hopping mad, we could easily be in the same situation in a years time! Crikey if Joe Public knew what a farce it is, no one would believe you. What a joke.

It's ridiculous because if it gets relisted again we are getting close to him being on the SOR for a year! Will they take that year into account when they do his sentencing?. I just want it over now, the last three years have really taken its toll on me

Knock on the door feb 8th 2 extensions to be then told he's got to go in next Tuesday. No pics were exchanged (he said) it was a sexual conversation. I don't know what to believe. All I know I love my husband so much and I've stood by is saide through it all. But now the solicitors are saying he could be charged.

So my now ex got the knock 26th July 2024 it was due to me reporting him as I found it on his devices :( my heart broke. My concern is the social are now involved in my sons life and will be involved in the baby's life when it's born I found out I was pregnant the day before I found the indecent images :( I have started assessments for him to have supervision contact as I do believe he's not a danger to his children he never has been but I'm really worried now how long the social will be in our life's never in my life did I ever think the SS would be involved I'm a good mum and I'm proud of that so for me it's devastating. Just want some advice from others going through the same. No one around me understands what I'm going through and I can't talk to anyone as they just don't understand how I feel so want to talk to other mums going through the same :( I'm a mess mentally ????

Hi soon to be, there isn't a set amount of time for ss to be involved. The fact that you reported will go in your favour as it shows that you are protective and know the correct procedure to follow.
I'd probably steer clear of telling them that you don't think he's a risk, maybe word it as risk would be mitigated by him being supervised for contact. I was 3 months pregnant when my partner was arrested 4 years ago. He has had supervised contact with our daughter since she was a week old xxx
