I looked round my crowded local yesterday, I saw a room full of smiles and the place loud with laughter as people hugged and smiled - wished each other 'merry Christmas'. All dressed with seasonal clothes and tinsel.

I thought how many of these people are actually putting on a brave face, hiding perhaps financial worries, troubled relationships, a bereavement, health concerns - perhaps like me missing a loved one. All very sad but great to see them enjoying themselves.

My son called from prison, he was upbeat and laughing when I asked if Santa had been in the night!!! Several months ago he'd spoke to his dad who 'had a go at him' and all had gone quiet between them.

I coaxed them to speak yesterday, bit stilted but it really made my day to rebuild another fractured bridge in this mess. I had a drink to celebrate and also had another for my friends on here x

i wish you all a merry Boxing Day xxxxx and as always thanks for being there and patiently listening to my story x

Thank you Smile and Daffodil for all your advice, I do not post much but frequently look at the advice you both give. It is true, we never know what someone is going through, and someone on the board said that with the numbers of men being arrested there is a chance of a person going through the same as us, very near us, possibly in the pub with you Smile.

This forum is certainly a lifeline. Happy New year to you both and everyone on here. Xx

Smile - you are so right about wondering what is going on in other people's lives. Right now I can't imagine many going through worse than we are, but everyone's pain is the worst possible to them.

I'm so grateful to have this forum so that we all know we are not alone in this, even though we're basically strangers.

Our day was a lovely as it could have been my daughter and her boyfriend cooked and it was lovely

I stayed in my pjs all day and it felt so good

Spoke to my son , opened our gifts, a tinge of sadness but we made it

Today we had dinner booked so put a nice dress on and had a couple of lovely hours with my loved ones, still tinged with sadness but we are here and so is my son

Hugs sent to you xx
