Hi my son starts the Group Horizon course soon which will be at the local probation office, can anyone tell me what it will entail, will he have to disclose his offence to the other men who are there ?
He is really quiet but has been told he will have to talk quite a bit on the course
so just wondering what it is all about
thanks

No advise to offer but I just wanted to wish your son strength and hugs
Any course they offer has to be a good thing for our sons x
Sending hugs xx

Hello SadMum,
My husband has just completed the course and told me that nobody shares any information about their offence. The course leaders are pretty hot on maintaining confidentiality and one specification was no exchanging of telephone numbers or addresses. Everyone is on first name terms and no surnames are disclosed to any group members, he said there were a few young people on the course who were very quiet to start with but they all participated. Golden rules were don't be late, attend every session and any issues speak to the probation member leading the session. My husband really didn't like the thought of going in the first place but at the end he said despite there being aspects he didn't agree with it is a good course and everyone got on really well by the end.
I hope your son will be fine, he will only have to discuss what he is comfortable with. My husband requested to attend his course out of area and apparently that was also the case for a few other members.
Try and reassure him once it is complete it will be another milestone achieved in this horrendous journey. X

I have suggested my son speak to his key person about any available treatment courses. It seems ludicrous to me to have spent two years in prison and not even a start to address why his behaviour developed.
Upset - has your son been offered anything yet?
