Hi all, so last week we were told to take our son out of college until we got the all clear from police. Today we have been told he cannot go to college unless they are informed and risk assessment done. Another stumbling block, just don't know what to do for the best. He only has about 6 weeks left on the course. This is just never ending.
Could he possibly compete the course online at all?
Hi Seaside, unfortunately not as it is mainly practical work. Xx
Same as my son then he was in the same position-it is such a shame
Did your son have to pull out of college?
It's just heartbreaking isn't it. I'm so angry and ashamed today. Mostly with my son but also myself, why wasn't I more protective over the Internet. And also with the length of time this is going on for, he should have been dealt with before he turned 18. I really feel like the police get pleasure out of the suffering we have had. Xxx

I agree with you about the Police seeming to enjoy this. So angry in your behalf.
It might be worth contacting the DSL at the college and having a discrete conversation. I doubt this is the first time they've had to deal with it...
DSLs are amazing people and they can be hugely helpful

Thank you K4, I will take him tomorrow and speak to the DSL. Fingers crossed he can finish the course xx
Hi,
Really sorry to hear this. It also happened to my son and he could not be accepted in another college at all where there could be people under the age of 18 as they could not have capacity for him to be constantly monitored. His only option now is to wait for the shpo to be lifted (23) or attend an adult only college, of which there are none in our area.
Our focus was to keep him occupied, and he has applied for warehouse work. But he can only get work where it is over 18s or there will be full disclosure by the police to the workplace and parents of anyone under the age of 18, asking if they would be happy for their child to be in the presence of a sex offender.
At the time I felt my son had lost his entire future. He has lost the future he/we saw for him and that's really hard to get your head around. However, as incredibly difficult as it was at the time, he has also found independence and growth too. He lost his right to an education at 16 and became NEET, particularly as I have role in education. But, there is hope.
Sending you and your son lots of care

Could the tutor be approached to do one to one , practical teaching. If he only has 6 weeks how many hours is that, is itpart time or full time. Surely there is a way round ensuring he gains his qualifications .
unfortunately my son lost his career , so sad and upset about that he was great in his chosen profession but i get why he cant do it . New career ahead and things are now looking better x

Good morning. So I have spoke with the safeguarding lead and have had to inform then of the crime and the bail conditions. I now have to wait for it to go to panel (safeguarding lead, his manager and 1 executive) to see if they can facilitate him and my son needs to have meeting with them. I have been told to just wait to hear from them. I'm definitely getting used to waiting lol xxx
Hope you are all doing well xx

Well done on being so brave and fingers crossed for a positive outcome xx
Hi, I know you don't really respond to me when I reply but really hope your son got a positive outcome and sorry for replying to your post again as I realise this may be unwelcome x
@So tired. Good morning I'm so sorry I don't always reply that is really not my intention, but I assure you, your replies are very much wanted and appreciated. Thank you very much. We are still waiting for an answer from college. They did ring last week and said they were struggling to come up with an option because pupils can go out to lunch etc unsupervised, so he was calling the oic to check this with the bail conditions and come up with a solution,, but I'm guessing he has not had an answer yet surprise surprise...
At the moment it feels like I'm living in hell.
How are you doing? Xxx

Sorry, clearly having a needy wobble that day! Face palm!
Hope you are moving forwards with this. As a side note do you have anything called YEI where you are? Youth employment initiative? I contacted ours for him and they provided support in terms of well-being, cv's and even put him on courses (he now has a business admin qualification, finance qualification and can operate a fork lift truck!)

Have you heard anything back KT? x hope it's more positive than our experience
Hi so tired, nope not heard a thing, they said they were waiting to speak to OIC who was off when they rang so we're told he would call them back. My son said he is gutted but its not the worst thing in all of this, so I'm glad it's not sent him even lower, his mood has been very very low at the moment.
How are you doing? Xxx

Oh my word, it's been an eventful week. Far too much to put into words, however, we have survived and I've gone to my go to to de-stress. Decorating. Currently covered in paint and shattered but for productive reasons rather than nothing left reasons.
How are you both doing? Im keeping us busy x

Ah so tired, sounds like you have been busy. Funnily enough we have also been decorating, trying to get the house sorted incase we have to move (hoping not) we are doing OK, getting through each day on this long long road, waiting for cps decision. Xxx
Ahh I understand this. I find decorating soothing. The mindless brush strokes and making something positive and new. We decided to move and have been in a couple of months now. But I also decorated our last home.
Wishing you the best, and even if you don't decide to move decorating is a sort of re-fresh in more ways than one x
Sending you love x
