Hello all

i was wondering if anyone who is at the end of this journey (although I'm aware it will never be the end and life has changed forever)

what is life like when they get out from a custodial sentence?
where do they go? Can they come back home? Do they get hassel? Can they get a job?

basically I'm asking is there any hope they will be able to live a life again?

Hi Carmela,

my partner got a suspended sentence 7 months ago, 7 months SOR.
2 children and he is living back home with us.

He lost his good job but has thankfully managed to get another one in engineering.
We have lost some friends and family, but it has brought us closer to others.
our circle is now much smaller.
we have good days and bad days. Thankfully the good days are starting to overtake the bad.
still having therapy.
have been on holiday abroad with no problems and almost forgot about everything whilst away.
have not been able to visit some places in UK where we used to visit due to being on SOR.
So as you can see some things are 'normal' some will never be normal.
I have a different outlook on life now.
I can't control this, what will be, will be, I appreciate the smaller things I didn't before, and Im a better person for being less judgmental, as you never know how you would react unless you were in someone's shoes.
so what I'm trying to say it there are positives and negatives but we will all get there.
Any questions please feel free to ask x

I can't offer any information from my own experience and I do think there are a lot of variables that will impact the outcome - The prison, the media coverage, possibly the offense, risk level, the home situations and location.

Through my prison visits I know 3 people who have come to the end of their custodial.

One person's wife seperated from him so he had nowhere to go. He was given a place to live, I believe this is for 6 months.

Another person has been told they will go to a hostel for 3 months with the requirement they must check in 3 times a day and there is a curfew. They will then be allowed to live in their partners home.

The other person has been able to go back to his home with his partner. They don't have children

Carmela - I've learnt your brain can go bust with overthinking - all these worries might not happen so you really must try not to overthink (much easier said than done), especially as release date edges nearer.

Your post SAL has made me feel better. At least the men you spoke of all were released with somewhere to go and not thrown onto the streets.
