Holiday to Spain/Portugal
Notifications OFF
Hello all,
Hope people are doing ok.
My partner has been on the SOR for almost a year now, nine to go.
Can anyone tell me their experience of going to Spain or Portugal and how they were dealt with at the airport and if they had any contact from local police?
At home, probation and visor manager are fine about it and have signed off on the idea (holiday not booked) as long as we inform before going.etc. We no longer have SS in our lives at all and have unsupervised contact between my partner and our daughter, who is almost 2.
We're staying at my mother's house out there so no other children and all private.etc (my partner has internet only restrictions) so there's again no concerns.
Just wondering if the general experience of going abroad whilst on SOR?
Hope people are doing ok.

Hi,
We went to Spain last April, my oh on sor, we had no problems at the airport or while we were away, our visor told us at the time, his passport will just flag to them he has left the country, but as long as u tell them its not a problem.
Hope this helps

My o/h is in virtually the same position, on Sor for 18 months now and some years yet (10 years in total). I was very anxious about our holiday to Portugal. I am happy to be able to report back that in fact all went smoothly, with no problems at all. the passport control officers may have taken a few minutes longer than usual but certainly nothing obvious. As soon as our flights etc were booked, he went to the police station to have the details added to his SOR, his Visor team were made aware and we had no interaction with the portugese police at all. So please, book your holiday, go and enjoy.
Did you all have to tell the visor where you were staying? We hope to go abroad in our camper van but not sure we would be allowed if we don't know where we are staying.
@EllBee yes you need to give details of where you're staying if abroad - just so they can be clear of where and if there are children.etc
There's a lot of campsites in the U.K. that don't allow those on the SOR so might be worth double checking for abroad.
And thanks everyone - booking on payday so I feel more reassured now!

By Oct it is thought the visa system to travel to EU countries will be in place - it isn't clear yet what this means for those with convictions.
So I would recommend considering going before this visa system kicks in. Unfortunately my person and I can't go on holiday this year, I hope it will be ok to go to mainland Europe.

Hi Pregnant and Scared!
no advise as we can't leave the country for 2 years while on licence I was told.
BUT just wanted to say I'm THRILLED to read that you now have unsupervised reached unsupervised with your hubby and little one! That's amazing news!!
We are just waiting on the report from the risk assessment our social workers asked for from LFF. Then we should hopefully be on our way to unsupervised too. Hubby is currently allowed unsupervised in public so long as I'm nearby if there is an issue.
hope you have a lovely holiday when you go!

Hi ScaredLamb,
Is your partner on suspended sentence or on licence? Mine is suspended sentence and we've been told can still go abroad/on holiday during this time. Probation happy about it so then visor manager has no issues and he finishes the Horizon course in July so won't be missing any of that.etc
And thank you, a lot of work to get to here and we were told it wouldn't happen but look at us now! Xx

Thought I'd just add to this for other people's reassurance. My OH is on SOR and we've been on several holidays in the last 18 months since sentencing (suspended) and had no issues at all, just the electronic passport checkers don't allow him through (but this isn't rare, it happens for loads of people at random). We've been to Morocco, Poland, Prague, France, Spain and Ireland so far and no issues. Just have to inform OM (they said the country we're visiting doesn't get informed, just when we're back in the UK it flags up). Hopefully this reassures people thinking about travelling abroad.
Does anyone know if Cyprus is ok to go too, as i would like my son and his family to go there as i have an apartment out there. He is on Sor.
Hi,
My OH is on SOR and we've visited Cyprus, Cape Verde and Italy all with no problems. As others have said you just need to register it before you travel.

Hi Ladies, we are still long way from sentencing.
But a question regarding sor, what about travelling to countries which require visa.
will those convictions have to be declared for life or only till sor lasts.

It is so good to read these positive posts. Thank you all for posting. We haven't got as far as thinking about holidays yet but it is so heartwarming to know that we can still have holidays over seas when the time is right.
The etias system for visiting the Schengen area has been delayed to 2025 and it's thought there will also be a 6 months 'grace' period so we should all be ok for a year or two, and then I anticipate it will get more difficult because IIOC is one of the convictions asked about
I want to go to Disneyland Paris at some point, I'm guessing we wouldn't be able to stay at a Disney hotel with my husband then :(

Hi, Son went to Poland and no problem at all. We were just told visa counties are maybe not impossible but more likely no. I think it would be better to apply for the visa before booking and see. maybe book on booking.com so you have a hotel you could cancel?
Make sure you read the terms and conditions of any caravan parks or Centre parcs etc, None of them let SOR on site. Even theme parks say no. So I would read the terms and conditions of Euro Disney first.
