Advice on writing a disclosure statement

Any advice please on how to write a statement when applying for a job?
My son is looking at applying for a job working nights at a local food store. On the application form it asks about any unspent convictions but says this is optional...
His SHPO doesn't have restrictions on under 18 as his was an online offence but he is quite willing to disclose if needed.
The store doesn't employ any under 18 year olds.

Under 18s can't work nights, iirc x
Hi K4 yes I know that thanks that's why he's applying but I'm not sure if he will need to disclose regardless of this .
Unlock.org.uk was lots of useful information about applying for jobs and when to disclose and how. I wouldn't disclose unless required.
My person was told by his probation worker they will sign him up with a company who will help write a statement/disclosure about the offence in context and like all the positive points of what he can bring to an employee or something maybe his probation can also do the same inknow it doesn't help in there here and now as I'm sure these things will take time.

Thanks Summer he has a phone call tomorrow with someone who is meant to be advising him about this.
I'm now really confused and looking for some advice please.
My son had a meeting this morning with someone recommended by his PO who can help him to find employment.
During the conversation they seemed to be saying that even though his community order and time on SOR and SHPO will end in 2028 it will be another 7 years before his conviction is unspent.
This is the first we have heard of this-neither the solicitor, visor or the PO have mentioned it at all.
My understanding was that once the 3 years with probation and the time on the register/ SHPO had finished then the conviction is classed as being spent.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that, most offences are not spent and therefore need to be disclosed for several years after the time in prison / probation is over.

Thanks mjl so from looking at the chart it would seem that it is 5 years plus another year afterwards.
This whole system seems very strange to me-if someone has served the sentence, engaged in rehabilitation, undertaken unpaid work etc and not breached the terms of the SHPO then surely they should be given a second chance?
