Can hospital see my husband's offence?
Notifications OFF
I took my two kids to A and E over the weekend as they were unwell. My husband went with me (he's allowed around the kids as long he's not left alone with them).
The triage nurse asked us if we had any involvement with social services? I then said "yes", to which she replied "but nothing at the moment?" (which is true as social services have closed our case).
I am just wondering whether there is a marker on the kids files? Does it only show a general note of SS involvement or does it give details about my husband's offence (indecent images)?

Hi,
I think it's become a standard question for all children taken to hospital. If you have an open case with ss they have to report any visits to hospital to cover themselves.
As I was pregnant my midwife was informed and didn't remove the marker when the case was closed so we ended up being kept in when I gave birth until they could verify that my daughter could be released with me. I also had to have a sw health visitor for 2 visits until she discharged us to universal care instead. I also went through my GP for counselling initially and was told that they would report to the safeguarding person for my two older children. I'm unsure if that means that there are markers on their records or not. I don't think that it would show full details and it definitely wouldn't be visible to anyone with access to their records like drs receptionists etc xxx

From a recent experience, i had to take my child to out of hours (Had the flu) Baby's on CPP, when i saw the social worker she said they get a notification but if she was on CIN or case closed they wouldn't be informed.
i fear this also, i assume depending on background with social if involved with them maybe on notes.

Hi,
I work in health. On the system, in the health board I work in, when you put a child's name into the system it will come up with an alert if the child is on the child protection register and what social work department they are open to. It does not say why they have a child protection alert nor anything about parents convictions. It's quite common to have alerts on for lots of different things, like they have open access to a ward or maybe something about allergies. I know that health boards don't all use the same system however, where I work it's standard practice to ask about social Work. Sorry I've gone on a bit of a rant here. Hope your little one is ok.

They've always asked about social services. We had a few visits to a&e when kids were little and they always asked about other children, where they were, whether we had contact with social services. I assume it's safeguarding.

That's really helpful, thank you for everyone's replies.
My children aren't on the child protection register and they haven't been subject to a child protection plan. So far, at least.
I'm relieved to know that details of my husband's offence probably aren't on the system.

Hi,
I think its a standard question, I think it came about because services were not talking to each other and it's resulted in a few child deaths, it does happen most places now x it's usually r ss involved if not then don't think u need to tell them x
