Looking for some advice please.

My son applied for a job working nights at M& S and has an interview tomorrow.

He wasn't asked about any unspent convictions when applying and was told by his probation officer that because they don't employ under 18's it would not be a problem.

He has a statement prepared in case they ask at the interview but if he isn't asked should he still disclose anyway or not ?

Hi Seaside,

No, if they don't ask or mention a dbs check then he shouldn't. Wish him good luck from me. Lots of love xxx

Thanks Distressed that's what I thought-I'm just being ultra cautious because he was forced by the visor to disclose at his previous job despite never having been asked and having worked there for 6 months.

Thanks Daffodil he had a meeting today with the probation officer and told her that he was thinking of applying and she said that she didn't think the visor would have a problem with it but I think an email would be a good idea.

Amazingly the Probation officer didn't know whether he had received a suspended sentence or a community service order !! wtf he has just completed his community payback... it really makes me wonder just how these people can be so incompetent

I wish your son the best of luck tomorrow, Seaside. It would be a brilliant job for him, still customer service based, but at night there definitely won't be any minors around. xx

Thanks hpl he worked in this role whilst RUI when we were living in our previous home and did very well so fingers crossed that he will be successful as he really wants to be back in employment again.

Wishing all the luck in the world for your son! defo don't disclose!

I'm surprised the probation worker didn't know all of that did they not do an induction and here it's the probation worker who arranges all the community service! Incompetence is becoming standard here!
Probation want people in work! That supposedly keeps people out of trouble! how often is he seeing the visor?

Hi Summer,

yes he has done the induction and the probation officer also came for a home visit with the visor so it is very disturbing that she didn't appear to know exactly what sentence he received.

Quite honestly the whole system seems to be in total chaos and there doesn't seem to be any communication between the different sections.

The visor has been here twice so far and hopefully will now back off a bit.

im keeping everything crossed for him tomorrow it would be so good for him to have a job again as he was devastated to lose the one he had been doing.

Hi. I'm so sorry to.put a downer on thing, but if he will be working in store you should know that they do employ under 18's. My daughter has worked there since she was 16, she's now 17.

Hi everyone he seems to think that it went well-he did tell them that he had a conviction because they said they would be making checks so we will see what happens as they've said that they will let him know next week.

He did say that the interviewer thanked him for being open and honest though.

Confused this is for a job working nights so no under 18's involved

Thanks Upset I am so proud of him for doing that it wasn't easy but he is determined to be open and honest going forward.
