Hello, I'm new here, thank you so much for allowing me to join.

I must say this is one group I never ever thought I would be a member of ????

We had the Police arrive on Wednesday and take all the devices in the house (except mine) .

They said someone had accessed content on one day in December 2022.

My adult son is on the Autistic spectrum and has a learning disability but he has had a full time job since leaving school. I told the officers that and they were very respectful and understanding.

My question is, we think we ought to employ a solicitor but we'd like to find one who would have an understanding of someone with my son's difficulties but haven't a clue where to start!

I was hoping someone would kindly advise.

Many thanks xx

Hi Bewildered Mum

I am so sorry you found yourself here and I had to reply to you after reading your post.

Daffodil is right with the advice on google. You could also maybe contact the National Autistic Society and ask if they hold a list of Solicitors.

How are you and your son doing? Is he able to talk to you about what is on his devices? People with autism can be so much more vulnerable with getting into trouble on line.

A helpful tip - If you put in autism or austistic in the search box at the top of the forum page you can read back through all the posts relating to autism for some really useful information that may be of help to you.

Have you spoken to the helpline? They can help support you and your son as you navigate through this journey.

Also, be cautious of the police even if they appear nice, they are only interested in getting a conviction - just talking from experience.

I am thinking of you and your son.

Thank you both for your replies, it's helpful to know we are not the only ones going through this, although I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!

We have found a Solicitor who seems to fit the bill and specialises in cases such as ours, we will instruct them tomorrow and get the ball rolling.

The roller coaster of emotions is so difficult to deal with isn't it, some days I just want to crawl into a hole and never come out, but of course that's not going to happen.

Thank you for the suggestions, I'll look though the forum

Thank you for your replies, I'm having a bit of a bad day at the moment so I need to get a grip and get on with it.

Burying my head in the sand is not going to help is it.

BTW my son insists he's done nothing, we have a close relationship and I think he would tell me.....

The police say it was one IP ping on one day that brought them to our door

We had exactly the same. They knocked on the 15th of December. But just took my son devices. Who funnily enough also Asd and ADHD. He wasn't arrested or charged on the day 3 months on we are still waiting for devices to be looked at
