I read a lot of newspapers including tabloids. Headline (after Gary Lineker) regarding a certain 70s pop star. They 'say' he's been spotted in a hostel using his mobile and hinting he is trying to access the dark web.
Now I'm not sticking up for the guy ( in any way ) but I'm sure his phone usage will be monitored they put nothing about that!!! Is he condemned every time he looks at his phone!
Then same paper moans about prisons having bowling grounds for the older inmates. Why not? It's a sport activity, some have football pitches. I'm sure the grounds will be maintained by the prisoners themselves..... It's all about rehabilitation these days. So do we bound prisoners in chains give them a daily flogging is that what they want???????
Then I read prisoners are asking about a wage increase. As we know the inmates are ripped off, the canteen prices are sky high and must be a nice profit for someone. It's us families that send in money - foot the bill to cover it, and we've been hit by the higher cost of living too!
that's it, rant over. Perhaps I should chuck this s..t in the bin and decorate like SoTired x

It's so hard, isn't it. I have to step away from the news and mumsnet sometimes as I get so cross at people's black and white view of the world. There are so many misconceptions about sexual offenders.
Morning Smile
Totally agree with what you have said
Honestly I try to avoid reading, listening to the news our offenders are in prison paying for their crimes
My son gets £9 a week for working full time so I send money in monthly to support him with things from the canteen, he has one friend who has no support at all inside but there are many more in the same situation xx

Hi, I totally agree with what you're saying about the news and also how these offences are dealt with/portrayed.
My person is succeeding in his career, in a loving relationship now and so kind and considerate of others, definitely not a predator, I know this is a blip in his life and he has to get through it, as all our persons do :(

I totally agree with what you're saying and how these crimes are portrayed in the media and also by an extent by the police.
My son was told by his visor manager that " well you're a sex offender so you can't expect to be treated with any respect " which is just appalling in my opinion.
I have always been of the opinion that you look at the person concerned and not just at the crime-my son is not a monster he is a kind and caring person who, during the lockdown, went out of his way to help others.
He made one stupid mistake and is now paying for it-don't get me wrong I am in no way condoning what he did and yes there should be consequences for this but it seems to me that unfortunately all offences of this nature are viewed in the same way regardless of the circumstances and severity.
How is it right that someone can knock over and injure another person but they don't lose their job over it and their families certainly don't have to endure the same media coverage and judgement?

That's absolutely disgusting to say that to your son, the whole way of looking at these crimes seriously needs looking at, how are these men meant to rebuild their lives, their confidence and self-esteem when currently they don't have a chanceon any level :( xx
Bettyboo unfortunately we seem to have been landed with an absolute thug and bully who basically thinks that my son should walk around with a board round his neck proclaiming his crime.
Seaside, he needs reporting, a bully like that doesn't deserve the job of looking after your son. He's a low life under the guise of being an important member of society, so sad xxx
That comment is outrageously disgusting - surely not appropriate in their profession.
i 'm shocked......
i 'm shocked......
Seaside, is he still bullying your son?
I remember vaguely you had a meeting with the probation officer and the visor manager, in which you were assured that your son wouldn't be bullied?

I will try to stop it winding me up! Thanks daffodil xxxxx
Thanks for the messages regarding the horrible comments made by the visor to my son.
We have reported him but so far haven't received any response ( no surprise there) he really is a nasty piece of work.
A good friend of mine who is a former probation officer told me that the police have a habit of deploying their least competent officers to this role and it definitely seems to be the case here.
The problem is that if you complain to the police or the media it could potentially make matters worse but they really shouldn't be allowed to get away with this kind of behaviour

I literally just seen an article online in the local rag about a guy who was in court with iioc . They obviously weren't allowed into the court and no report on that . They went to his front door , got a reporter to knock on it and took his picture!!! His wife , children or parents could be in that house they just blew their worlds apart!! It shouldn't be allowed I'm so cross but also feel so luck my person managed to stay out of media .x
We have been really lucky that nothing was reported in the media.
We moved away from the area where the offences took place ( planned beforehand but happened earlier as a result) but the case was heard in our previous location.
According to the visor here if it had been here then it would definitely have been reported so it would seem that that there is variation between areas.
Reading today about Caroline Flack and the treatment she received from the police has really saddened and angered me-a life lost due to the treatment she received from the police and the media
