Hindsight is a wonderful thing ...

When partner got sentanced we were told that no way could he get a community order due to having viewed a Cat A iioc, that it had to go off minimum sentencing guidelines, so we just accepted it and barrister pushed for suspended which he got.
having seen several cases yet community orders for less than partners crime, I wish we'd pushed for the Community order. I know I can't and couldn't control anything but I feel a bit hard done by when I see other sentences. Just seems unfair that there is so much variation in sentences.
All mitigating factors were positive.
I also do see other sentancing that is much harsher too. There should be a points system or some kind of standardisation To make sure everyone gets fair punishment to the crime x

It's a complete lottery. You may as well throw a coin in the air and calls heads or tails.

Totally agree with you. My person got suspended, a huge amount of unpaid work, fine, SHPO and long SOR. He had a tiny amount of images compared to most, the Police, Probation, his Solicitor, Barrister etc all said that. 1 Cat A which he didn't forward. I know he did wrong, so does he, he will never forgive himself and I will never forget, so I totally agree that he should be punished, but I feel sick everytime I think that this is going to be in the forefront of our lives for 10 years at least.

I've read so many cases since my person was sentenced, who were sentenced for similar and more but received a lot less. What really bothers me is he got a life time SOR and SHPO - He had one conversation. There is no difference in the length of SOR and SHPO to people that have physically harmed children. I wish I'd had my wits about me, been more forceful with him.
