There is a petition to make the minimum sentance set at two years, no suspended sentences, no community orders, no cautions etc. just straight to jail for communication with a minor (including not real child so decoys)/ iioc etc.

they need 100,000 signatures by September and to be fair they are only about 300 or so in, but that would be devastating for families like all of ours. Especially if it were a decoy (police or vigilante)

gods how I wish I could sue the vigilantes for the damage they caused to my children. Had it not been for them I could have kept it all low key in the community and I wouldn't have an elder child (youngest has no clue as is too young) and myself afraid to go out and be judged or confronted.

I hope that this petition doesn't pass

It won't get through. There's not enough prison spaces. Don't worry. There's lots of petitions about.

I don't honestly think this will happen there are over 120 offences of this nature every week according to the NSPCC. They have no space to lock them up!

Why oh why don't they just look at the whole system regarding this type of crime and look at the men behind the crimes and the depths they fall into, the shame and guilt they feel and the backlash from every angle they receive, when most of them are kind caring and loving individuals who have struggled at one time and done what they've done. They're still human beings with their own feelings, they need help to rebuild themselves and not have society hating on them. wherever this petition started, those people need hung drawn and quartering! And I do understand there are some vile creatures out there that do commit horrific crimes so I don't say what I say lightly.

There's a lot of petitions about the place. Some I could sign happily, others are plain stupid, and some like this one prick our interest and horror because it concerns us.

They might discuss it, but they wouldn't be able to deliver it. There are more pertinent issues out there. Try not to worry xx

I think I know who may have set that up. It's somebody who sits on Youtube talking a load of crap and sharing vigilante streams. He monetises from it but recently some of the vigilante teams have threatened him so he can no longer share them. He has about as much influence as my left bunion so doubt it will get any traction. The funniest part of all of these petitions that flitter around is the amount of selective outrage when it comes to "stings" which will have thousands of people in if live or thousands of views if recorded but there's only a measly 300 signatures on a petition which would actually potentially make a change? Just proves the "stings" are all for public amusement and the threats and Billy big b*ll*cks comments from people who are nothing but keyboard warriors are just a front because if they actually wanted change they would sign but they don't actually care. I personally think they will prosecute less before they increase sentences because it's a growing issue - look at theft - it's basically decriminalised, the country can't hack increases in crime. I'm not saying I want less prosecutions either, I personally think the government need to take preventative measures and that would help lower the prosecutions in the first place but.... we can dream!

Haha thanks ladies, glad I could make you smile, I always intend to be serious but often make people laugh when I'm cursing someone or a situation, I try to tone it down on here but that Youtube whopper really gets up my nose so I guess it slipped out xxx

Loved what you wrote baffled, honestly made my day.

I just hate seeing petitions like this atm it makes all the hairs on my neck stand on end (I know it's most likely because of what we all face)

websites such as Facebook have been asked probably a thousand times to remove the vigilantes but according to them it doesn't breach community standards. Which it pretty much violates all of them but what do I know

There's an intresting document on the police foundation titled turning the tide against online sexual abuse which is an intresting read although lengthy. They say about how they don't have the funds or the. IT to keep up with it all and saying the volume of people surely they need to look at going down a different route not just a legal one.

It would be really interesting how many convictions are based solely on decoys! It seems police are just interested in easy wins why look at thefts when you can sit in the office pretend to be a kid and get points that way?? In my case I'm not sure any child has been safeguarded and actually just made my kids life worse!

I heard a Mum on the news today (her daughter was killed by someone that had been flashing in previous months and this is considered a non contact sexual offense) she is doing some campaigning around raise awareness and more action from the police for these kinds of offences (flashing). She actually said that she didn't believe prison would help, that these type (non contact offenders) need help and support, monitoring and treatment programs. Whilst she wasn't talking about the same crimes as us, but it felt promising that a victim could understand that prison wasn't necessary the best way for society to be safer.

If you follow the news, you may know who I'm referring up, so want to make it clear she wasn't talking about the same crimes as us, but it felt like a positive outlook for something on a similar vain.

As others have said - There isn't enough places on prison. No likely to happen.
