So OH has been told to attend police station tomorrow, just spoke to solicitor who says they are going to charge him on 8 counts. We're shell shocked, he only had a few daft watsapp videos an memes which had been sent in various lads groups, this is viral media sent around by thousands of people throughout the world.
Oh was convinced it would all get dropped as everyone we spoke to thought it was completely ridiculous. But here we are, awaiting 8 bloody charges.
How can CPS think this is in the public interest.
No searches for anything, no requests for anything, no IIOC just some daft viral media.

The CPS would only bring charges, if they thought they had a good chance of getting a conviction.
As for the content, if its not iioc, then could it maybe be extreme porn? The definition of that includes things that most people would not think would be illegal, because they are often found on legal adult porn sites.
It will be up to your solicitor to challenge the CPS, once they have seen the charges, if the solicitor doesn't think they meet the definition of extreme porn.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in here but just wondering how the charges work with regards to how many images, so say they found 80 images/videos then some shared does that go down as 1 count of possesion? 1count of distribution?

It can easily adds up like others have said.
My partner had making and distribution for all the categories (so that is six charges already), then one for possession of animals and possession of prohibited images (my understanding that is psudeo images with no real children involved). So he got at least 8 charges (was over three years now so I can't quite remember all the charges).
My partner was online only- saving pics. Distribution was because he saved some in a folder on a shared cloud server- thankfully no one accessed it, but was deemed distribution regardless

It's very overwhelming but they do push for as much as they can. I remember nearly crumbling to the floor when I saw my partner's charges, there was quite a few. Of course your solicitor will go through everything but ask your solicitor for a copy of the evidence (if you want) and go through it with a fine toothcomb. Look at absolutely everything repeatedly and highlight anything which isn't right. There needs to be evidence to prove each individual charge. The extreme stuff could potentially be questioned, my partner wasn't charged but I know when it was brought up in court the barrister stated they were intended to be humourous and not for sexual purposes so this could potentially help as you stated it was one of those silly Whatsapp groups. Xx

So the Solicitor said he doesn't need to be present tomorrow and that OH should just go and collect charges and say nothing, he's made an appointment for next week with the solicitor to go through everything.
Hopefully the bail conditions can be changed though tomorrow.
I'll keep you updated with how he gets on x
