I'm curious to know that when someone is arrested, are they told exactly what for and how they were "caught"
I am finding it hard to believe they were not told this.

They'd be told very broadly why they were arrested, e.g. suspicion of possession of indecent images of children or sexual communication and cautioned. They wouldn't necessarily know how they were caught or exactly what evidence the police had, although this would often be apparent from the questions asked by police at the initial interview.
My OH wasn't arrested, but was told he was being investigated for possession and distribution IIOC.
I tried to press them on how he came to attention and they just said "intelligence"

Hi Curious. You are told when you are arrested what it's for. For example if someone has ILOC on their phone the police can see that and that's what they will arrest you for. Indecent images of children. However, if there is nothing visible on the phone they can seize it and take it to be investigated. They would need a search warrant to come into your home and seize goods. Hope that helps.
Shatteredworld they didn't tell my OH how they came by his offense. He used his work phone which is registered to his employers address but was arrested at home. He swore he never did any online activity from home so I was going crazy thinking how and why did they come to our home until the penny dropped. The offending chat/communication had taken place whilst he was home and I was away visiting my elderly mother. The police traced the IP address and came to the house.
