Car insurance

Hi all. Hope everyone is doing ok. I posted on here some time ago and got really helpful feedback about accessing house insurance since my partner moved in with me. I'm having the same issues now because if his past convictions, but with car insurance. Was hoping to add him as a driver to my insurance as he's managed to get a job and it would just make our lives easier and more flexible. But my car insurance company won't even offer a quote to add him. Although we didn't need to answer lots of detailed questions about his conviction etc I'm assuming just the fact I said there were unspent convictions means many insurers won't offer him cover. Can anyone suggest any car insurance companies that do offer cover for those with convictions/on the register? Many thanks for any advice. (We tick along in life so nicely most of the time, it really strikes me when something like this crops up as a reminder of our reality :-(. )

We've just got car insurance for a new car my husband hasn't been convicted yet or even had charges but we never came across any questions asking about convictions apart from driving convictions.
That's very annoying I don't quite understand why they need to know if it isn't driving related!! I really hope this won't end up affecting his new job, he was forced to resign his warehouse job as the police arrested him at work, he has now worked hard to train as a lorry driver. His new employer haven't ask for any convictions so I hope that stays that way!

Both me and my oh are with LV, they only ask for motoring convictions. There was a list on unlock of those who will insure, I think the list has gone up to 5 companies when I did insurance this year
dont go through comparison websites as they always ask, go straight to the companies on the list

Like Lee says LV ask. Lv also said we needed to declare anyone living at the property you are insuring the car at. So even if i did not insure my OH i would have had to declare him. Madness! We were with them and they have changed the terms and conditions. So we went with Churchill. I do not understand either, plus whoever does insure them gets the customer as there are so few who do it. Makes no sense to me as it does not affect anything. But then again neither does household insurance!
I think Admiral also insure. I remmber some one saying their son declared to them, premium went up but they did insure them.

Unlock have 3 insurance companies I think Lee has mentioned them we did a quote on all 3 and they were about a £1 difference in price none asked any information so we have gone with one of them I'm guessing I may have to go with the same for our home insurance
Thanks everyone, so helpful, I'll take a look at those ones instead. I'm currently with Hastings so that's another one you can cross off your list! It just always surprises me the things that can be effected by this. And I know it upsets my partner every time something like this crops up as it's another reminder of the past and the ongoing implications it has, for me now I'm with him, not just for him. But we carry on don't we. I'm so grateful I can come to this forum where people understand
Hi iris
I'm with Churchill have had no problems worked out the same price as previous.
I'm with home protect for house insurance and OH rang them, they were extremely professional you do have to tell them. They also worked out a few pounds less then my previous house insurance.

I ended up being able to add him as a driver with Privilege, one of the three listed on the Unlock site. In fact the online form didn't ask about any convictions at all, not even driving ones, which I was surprised about. But anyway, sorted and at reasonable price. I didn't get charged an exit fee from my previous insurer either because they weren't able to offer me what I wanted, so all good! So thank you all. Take care
