So my OH has received a 4yr sentence. Feel like my whole world has collapsed.

The police and probation all recommended non custodial but made no difference

So sorry to read this, hope your ok!! I can't offer much advice as we're not that far yet into this horrible journey, we're 8 months in no charges or anything yet just Rui.

if you don't mind me asking what we're the charges? I'm reading more people recently receiving custodial.

Find out from their lawyer straight away whether there are grounds to log an appeal. It's worthwhile looking into. Needs to be done within 2 weeks of sentencing.

It doesn't feel like it right now but it will get better and you can do this. Promise.

I'm so sorry to hear this, I don't think anything can really prepare you for the shock. My person was sentenced to 40 months - We were expect it but nothing prepares you for the reality.

There are a few of us in here with loved ones in prison - We know the heart wrenching pain. If there is anything you want to know on a practical level please reach out. For now, look after yourself and let yourself absorb the news - Do what you need to get through the days, but make sure you look after yourself.

Thinking of you.

@Heroine I'm so sorry to read your post. I empathise with every emotion you are experiencing and remember only too clearly the shock of a custodial sentence. We are all here for you if you need to reach out. Please allow yourself time to process this and the shock. I too promise it does get more bareable xx

Bless you, it's an awful shock - even if you are told to expect a custodial. I say it's like a bereavement.

it will settle honestly and like us all on here you WILL gather strength and move forward.....

keep that strength up.....

My tracker started at over 600 days, it's now at 250. The adjustment and acceptance of a prision sentence is hard, as are the first few months - I wouldn't have ever believed it at the beginning, but it really does get easier, you both find your rhythm and a way to make the situation work as best as you can.

I hope you are both in contact soon. My person started his prision sentence over the Easter weekend, in someways it seems an age away, in others it doesn't seem that long ago.

Please reach out if you have any questions or need support - We are here for you.
