Hi Blackhound,

My person works nights at Asda and has never been asked. The job is physically demanding and the store he is in has some operational issues. I don't want to recommend it without giving you the full picture xxx

He says his boss she was very understanding about it that she had a friend that was in a similar position so had a bit of understanding about it.As long as it stays quiet he should hopefully get to keep the job after he's sentenced but if his work colleagues found out and petitioned for him to leave then obviously they would have to let him go so just hoping it stays out of the papers ect. X

Thank you, it is one of my biggest fears. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I honestly think working days would be better for his mental health because he struggles to go to sleep once he gets home.

Hi Blackhound, no advise unfortunately and sorry to hear the troubled he's having getting work.

I wondered if he'd been successful getting the article removed from Google, if so how?

Please let us/me know if there is a way to get this off Google - I hate the fact our name & address is there for all to see..... it's really not fair for us the innocent to have to bare this scar forever.

Blackhound, go on the website Unlock and type in ban the box, it will list lots of companies that don't make you disclose a conviction at the first stages of applying - my guess is if they have signed up for this they are also way more open minded about hiring people with convictions

Is he serving a suspended sentence/ on probation or just on the SOR?

There are also lots of organisations that help people with convictions apply for jobs, third sector charities and also private companies that work alongside probation - they get paid by the government and are profit organisations so are eager for referrals as they get money

If he has an engineering background perhaps smaller firms would be best? My partner has a job in engineering and didn't have to tell his work and he got the role post sentencing. Problem is he can't go for chartership until it is spent...and his work will be pushing for him to get chartered in the next few years ...can't force him but I suspect they would wonder why he won't be going for it

Advice101 indeed there are private company's who get paid by referrals made by probation there inlies a problem as my person experienced, unless you can fit in thier box so they can get paid they aren't interested!
It seems a lot of these referrals which are made seem to be creaming off the government! It's defo been an insight observing his process!

Private companies are a mixed bag for that very reason, target and profit driven so overall charities win in that respect as they don't have the same commercial drive, however, I volunteer for a private offender support organisation and they do make differences in people's lives, sorry to hear your person has had issues such a shame, nothing will ever be 100% perfect especially in the criminal justice sector
