Hey everyone

Long time lurker, first time poster

Just wanted to add a sprinkle of positivity to the stories here. My dad got the knock June last year. Arrested for possession of IIOC using kik messenger the previous year.

My dad admitted to using the app and scrolling through various pornography chats but absolutely denied ever sharing or downloading IIOC. Police told him they had found hundreds of images in all categories and seized his devices.

My mum, sister and I (plus our husbands) decided to stand by my dad and support him. We believed him.

It has been hell on earth. SS involved for my sister and my children. School informed. And my dad's mental health seriously spiralled...

But to keep it simple, yesterday the police came to my dad's house to deliver the news we had been waiting for. The case had been dropped and no further investigation. There was 1 image found linked to his IP address but not of a child. (My dad has no idea what this could be and frankly I don't really care).

But it's over. Just like that. We all feel like we are walking on air and I've got my dad back.

Be wary of what the police tell you they find because in my opinion and in this instance it seems they hadn't ever seen the "hundreds" of images they initially claimed.

Sending hope and positivity to you all...

X

K4..

Unfortunately we didn't press the issue at the time and they offered no explanation. They were very vague when we tried to ask questions and to be honest we just wanted them to leave so we could enjoy the moment.

I'm not sure if it's worth trying to find out why we had to go through so much trauma with the apparently zero evidence they had, or just try to move on with our lives...?

But thank you everyone for the kind words. I hope I can read more positive outcomes in the future and I'll continue to follow this forum

I have also been told by the police that my ex has downloaded iioc on the kik app. I've been told that their intelligence ie. They know it was downloaded to his account because the app reported him. Unfortunately, it's hard to recover images from this app if it's been deleted and so men get away with it. I spoke to the police last week and they said that unfortunately if they can't recover any wiped images he will get nfa. Fingers crossed they find it all!!

I can see where you are coming from with that reply. My dad had not deleted the app so everything should have been recoverable. I think in our minds and he takes ownership of the fact, he was in a dark corner of the Web but was extremely naive about how dark it actually was. He like many many others I have read about were mindlessly scrolling through chats unaware of what links and documents actually contained. As I said the findings were of 1 image not of a child. This is obviously disturbing also but even then the police said there wasn't enough evidence to charge him.

Maybe you think im being naive but he had many many chances over the past 11 months to admit if he had any interest in children or viewed images, knowing the evidence could come back and he never ever budged that he hadn't seen anything. And again as I said before, I beleive him.

@Holdyourheadhigh

That's fantastic, so happy for you!

May I ask you which area you roughly live in?

We're in the Midlands and my husband has been arrested last year July for making/distributing images on kik.

So we're on a similar time frame. I just hope we get an answer soon, so that we have an outcome..

This is brilliant news, congratulations! It really does show that we do have to sometimes be cautious when being told things by the police as they don't always get it right. I'm glad your instincts were right and you can all rebuild what this horrible journey takes away from you in the process xx

We are in Wales. It's taken 11 months in total for 2 devices to be checked. Even though it has been excruciating waiting this long, the police have told us it was relatively fast compared to people starting the process now, which is taking around 18 months +

We are so lucky. The police were awful initially. They arrested him for possession of iioc initially and then when he was explaining to my mum what kik was - dad said you can use the app to view and share images etc (as a matter of explanation) they then further arrested him on distribution charges just because of this. It was horrific and I strongly advise anyone at the start of this process to remain tight lipped and not implicate yourselves. The police can and will spin your words.
