In the news today, research has found that the number of websites with iioc has doubled since 2020.

I do not condone what our people have done, however, surely more effort should be made to stop the images and websites. It just shouldn't be so easy to access.

The more content also means that there will be more cases of accidental viewing, yet even accidentally viewing is criminalised.

Absolutely terrifying isn't it? Yet they just turn a blind eye at the source of this online problem.

It's so frustrating, when websites can be taken down and controlled as part of a cyber attack, surely there is a way to make the very accessible content not accessible. I understand its more difficult when it comes to torrents and messaging platforms etc.

I listened to Radio 4 this morning and the example cited by the politician was of course one of the more extreme scenarios and he obviously stated the low sentences. No wonder people think anyone convicted of these crimes and on the register are complete monsters.

Hi, Couldn't agree more with you. Like you said I do not condone what our people have done but when my husband was charged I was trying to gather information online and I remeber typing a certain phrase into google and websites for it just came up on a google search I was so shocked that it was so easy to access. I of course didnt click on it but it just showed how easily accidental viewing is. Like SAL says just wish websites could be taken down.

It's so frustrating! In any other context of the law it would be the providers fault to provide something negligent so why the onus is not on internet providers really irks me because I'm sure they have the funds and facilities to block and deal with iioc!!

Also, I was on Instagram last night and a meme page was promoting a girl's OnlyFans page (a website for people to sell their nudes/p0rn content). I was shocked and disgusted that this girl looked so young, legal but young, I went on her page to report it to Instagram as she was posing with teddies and purposely making herself look younger and it's not just a simple "press report and done" if you're reporting a minor on Instagram as you have to be over 13. You have to fill a form in?! How is that making safeguarding easy? I know she wasn't a minor but I was hoping Instagram would take her page down because I've noticed there seems to be a market for women to age-bait and play at being young and in my opinion it's playing with fire and encouraging behaviour which could one day harm a child or lead someone down the path of iioc. It needs to become illegal in the same way it's illegal to produce p0rn content involving certain acts.

Going on from BaffledB post - If pseudo imagery is illegal, then surely pretending to be young should also be illegal and things like younge, schoolgirl, teenager not be allowed to used in titles. There is soooo much content out there that is legal but pushing the boundaries and it normalises it. Some sites show the most searched for terms - School girl, young, teens etc usually at the top.

Grrrr it makes me so angry.

I think cutting up the supply will certainly the offenders that stumble across it or progress through porn addiction, but there will of course be people that are determined and drive to find and encourage content. But cutting of the supply would allow resources to be allocated to offenders that aren't quite so low hanging.

SAL,

I think that some of these SW will definitely be breaking the law in what they're doing. There was a whole drama on TikTok with this 19 year old girl who does OF and someone she was friends with stated she is asked to do and say weird things from older men (I imagine age play) and her page also looks like it belongs to a minor. As you say, what is the difference between that and pseudo images or any other charge they place on adult males when it comes to age play. I really do disagree with it and think it definitely needs to be stopped! xx

I see that Keily Blair, the Chief Strategy & Operations Officer of OnlyFans, will be appearing at the PIER23 policing conference next month. So they are aware that OnlyFans is a problem.
