Hi,

I am a single dad and since my son had 'the knock' ha has been having psychotherapy sessions every week which are private and we pay for (mostly by himself) he feels they are really beneficial and working well, I get the feeling that he is benefiting too and can allow myself to be hopeful again for the future.
The only issue we having is we have put the sessions on hold as we couldn't afford to pay for these every week. We will look at doing fortnightly or monthly. To be honest it would be great to be able to have this weekly.

I am wondering does anyone know of possible funding he could apply for to help with theses costs. As he is benefiting positively it is really important that he continues, he is aware of this too wants this.

Hi

im not aware of any funding. I was paying for my son weekly but the financial burden became too great so we had to knock it down to once a fortnight. My son said it was helping so I carried on trying to pay for it.

Is there any way your son could speak with the therapist directly and ask for payment plans?

I know my therapist deals with low income people and he makes payment plans to ease the burden and plenty more do too.

Hi, as well as the LFF 'Stop it Now' helpline (free of cost, confidential and can provide confirmation of number of calls/online chats for use in court etc) you may find it useful to contact some of the following. All are specialists in 'our world' and will be able to advise on support, resources, learning and counselling/therapy (for your son and wider family if appropriate).

- Circles

- Safer Lives

- Acts Fast

- Safer Living Foundation

- StopSO

- Aurora project

Also, if your son (or you or his mother) have private health cover through work, counselling/therapy will be avialable and will be totally confidential. Although in my experience, corporate private health providers don't seem to have therapists on their books who are familiar with our specific circumstances. Best of luck to you all - try to remember, all things pass, and just because someone has a past, doesn't mean they don't have a future.
