Pre sentence report

What are peoples experiences on pre sentencing reports actually being taken into consideration at sentencing? Are they just overlooked entirely or do they actually get taken into account?
Thanks

Sadly not in our case. Our initial judge adjourned as the pre sentencing report was late arriving. Same judge adjourned again due to overrun of significant case and gave a date for sentencing ensuring they were available. Sentencing date finally arrived, completely different judge, case seen as last of day ( Friday) after conflict in cells between gang members. Hadn't read anything and despite Barister requests wouldn't. PSR report and even prosecutors were recommending non custodial. Judge 'I've had a bad day' gave custodial which no one was expecting and floored everyone. It's all down to the wig wearer on the day and luck; I wish I could say otherwise. x
Ours was fully taken into account and every recommendation taken on board.

Hello
My person had under 500 iioc in all categories and posessing extreme images. The presentencing report recomended a high level community order only. If the recomendations in the report had been followed he would have got 5 years on the register.
But the judge was aparently new and she chose to ignore the presentencing report. He got a 12 months suspended sentence and 10 years on the register. Everyone, including the police, probation and solicitor thought it was quite harsh.
I have read many other scenarios where they followed the presentencing report so I guess you just never know.....It could have been worse though, he didnt go to prison and we are always greatful for that.
