Hi, does anyone have any insights or experience of this child protection course, including whether it's viewed positively by SS?

Hi,

this course is absolutely fantastic. The support given from it is fab as well, the lady who runs it will go to ss meetings and can go to court if needed. SS pay for people to do it, but you can also self refer.
My ss had never heard of it as we are up north- but down south it's very well known. but when we had an independent risk assessment it really went in my favour that I had done it. The course also includes a capacity assessment and report.

I'm in the north I've not heard of this but I'm going to look into it as this sounds like something I'd be interested in.

Hi i've just completed this course. My daughter is on a CIN plan.

SS actually referred me to this course and I waited 8 months for funding to come through to complete it. It was 2 hours a week for 8-10 weeks and I was absolutely dreading it.

The first couple of weeks I really didn't want to go, but by the third week I didn't mind and the last few sessions I was actually, dare I say, happy to attend. Overall I found it a really validating experience. SS had completely shattered my confidence as a mother and made me feel as though I couldn't protect my daughter. They gave me PTSD in the way they had dealt with me. Circles made me feel like I was a good mother and a decent person again. They also offered so much emotional support and a space for me to air my frustration and grief about everything I had been through.

I feel confident again and a large part of that is down to this course. I also had 6 weeks of trauma therapy which helped massively to reduce my PTSD symptoms.

Circles are now writing a report for SS and I am awaiting SS decision on whether I am able to supervise contact. My daughter hasn't seen her dad for over a year now, so just waiting see if this course makes the difference. I won't hold my breath though as I don't trust SS at all - they have told me one thing before then completely changed thier mind etc - hence the PTSD - but we will see.

But I do recommend as I honestly found it a good experience on a personal level x
