Can someone explain to me what happens if you have to register a new phone at the police station-my son dropped his phone at work so it needs to be replaced.

He contacted the visor and has an appointment on Friday morning for security stuff to be put on it.

Does this mean that the SOR is now reset from Friday?

Thanks I know that he has to register it within 3 days but my question is more about whether this changes the date that he has to go back and notify which is currently in December this year

Oh thank you I was getting a bit anxious because I thought it would change the notification period.

At least it is being done at the police station because I really don't want to engage with the visor at all due to his bullying behaviour towards me.

Hey, whenever he goes in to register or update anything on the SOR it then resets the clock from that date. The length of time on the register remains the same (5 years, 7 years, 10 years) but the date to report in on will change.

Eg. If he first registered 1st April 2023, and then went in on June 14th 2023 to register his phone then he wouldn't need to report in on 1st April 2024 but would have until 14th June 2024.

Obviously if it makes easier to have a clear date to go in on each year (such as your sentencing date) then that's fine as long as he's still making sure he doesn't let longer than 12 months go past between notifications.

Every time he registers he should get a yellow carbon copy paper of what has been filled in, keep those together in a file and it'll be easy to track when he was in and the dates.etc

My oh has never been told that nor had a yellow copy. Do you think it could be different areas

Pregnant and scared thank you for your reply this is what I understood would be the case but we haven't been given any guidance.

So if someone was sentenced for example in September 2022 and signed the register then but had to make a change in June 2023 does the next notification period run until June 2024 and so on until the end of the 5 years ?

Therefore the end of the five years would be June 2027 is that correct?

I may be misunderstanding here but if for whatever reason there were other changes ( moving etc) then surely this means that there is a longer time on the register if it resets each time ?

This is a really tricky area because some requirements to notify are in the persons SHPO and some are part of the notification requirements for the SOR.

The things that will reset the notification period are a change to name, address, passport or bank details. Things like a new phone still have to be notified, if they are mentioned in the SHPO, but they do NOT reset the notification period.

Also, the notification period cannot be extended, beyond the end of the persons sentence.

The best people to ask about this are the Unlock helpline.
