I am so angry with the legal system. Police and probation all said my OH will get either a suspended sentence or community service. Nope. He got a custodial for 4 years.

The judge said 2 yrs inside and 2yrs on licence. The prison paperwork states 2yrs 8months custodial and the rest on licence. I spoke to our barrister who finally phoned me after 1week of ringing and finally losing my temper. He said the prison paperwork was correct and was so condescending as though I was a fool and deserved no help or advice . Fortunately his attitude made me stand up and fight. So I found another barrister who is brilliant. I wish we'd had him from the start. He stated that whatever was stated in court is what he will serve. He advised me to get a transcript of the trial sentencing and he would then assist us. The transcript clearly stared the correct timescales. The barrister is now writing to the prison to get the sentence amended. Until it is corrected he cannot be categorised and sent to the correct jail.

Thank goodness I didn't accept my first barristers advice .

I am writing this as I hope this will help anyone else who finds themselves in our position.

Thank you for posting on the Family and Friends forum, we understand that it is not easy to post on a forum about these difficult situations. I can see that you have not yet had a reply on your post, hopefully someone else in a similar situation can reply soon with some support. From reading your above post, it is clear that your situation is difficult and has left you feeling frustrated. With this in mind I suggest that you do not leave these feelings bottled up or struggle on your own, therefore, I encourage you to call our anonymous and confidential helpline on 0808 1000 900. One of our trained advisors will be able to explore your situation further whilst providing tailored support and advice. I would also advise you to spend some time engaging with some good self-care. This could be simple self-care activities such as going on a walk alone or engaging in a hobby you enjoy. It is important that you take care of yourself at this difficult time. I hope this has been helpful.

Take care,

Lucy
