DBS Referral Process Timelines?
Notifications OFF
Hi everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster here and hoping someone may be able to help us.
We had the knock over a year ago and received a NFA from the police. The trauma this past year has caused has been unimaginable and I feel like I've been in a daze ever since the knock. Even though our case is closed, my person was still referred to the DBS to be considered for the barred list as their employer dismissed them which is heartbreaking as the police had proven their innocence. It has been over 6 weeks since the referral was made, but we still haven't received any notice from the DBS or a minded to bar letter. Has anyone been through this process and do you have any estimates on how long this could take? We just want this nightmare to be over but it still feels like we are being punished over and over again and how can we heal when this chapter still has a few pages left. I'm hoping the DBS has closed the case and my person won't be put on the barred list, but we are prepared either way and as bad as it sounds, it really does not effect our life so if this is the worst that comes then so be it I suppose. I thought the waiting was done but here we are again.
I have looked online but just can't find any information about people talking about their experiences with this, and hoping someone may be able to please help. Sending love and light to anyone experiencing this pain xx

Hi
Wow. Why would he get suggested for DBS barred list when police have given him a NFA, I don't understand how they could do that, or how it can fair.
Hope you get it resolved in a positive way,
Good luck

NFA can still show on the highest level checks as the other poster said (sorry immediately forgot your user name when I clicked on reply)
Something else to note is that acquitted and not guilty are not the same.
Acquitted simply means you were not found guilty, usually because there wasn't enough evidence to prove your guilt by the court burden of proof which is 'beyind reasonable doubt'. You are thefore acquitted.
Not guilty means you were actively found to not be guilty, because the evidence shows beyond reasonable doubt that you did not commit the crime.
Acquitted therefore still shows up on certain checks. Eg as a social worker I had a dad who was acquitted of 3 rapes so we still considered him high risk.
