Letter From Police

Hi,
My person has received a hand written envelope from our local Police HQ. He's away with work at the moment.
Does anyone know what this might be? The envelope is hand written and from police HQ, would it be a court date or would this come from the court itself in an official envelope? Any advice appreciated ????

Sounds like it's the charges and info on the court date for a plea hearing?. My partner had to go to the police station to collect his. Originally they were going to hand deliver it to him at his work but the oic put a stop to that as he knew my partners work don't know about what's happening. So yeah I would imagine they've hand delivered it to your house to make sure it's delivered. can you get permission from your partner to open it? Put your mind at rest?
Hi, thanks for responding, it's been posted through Royal Mail and only feels thin like one piece of paper, wouldn't charges be at least a few pages? It's also a hand written plain brown envelope.

Our charge sheet was only one page and we had nine charges on it so I wouldn't expect a lengthy document. It simply states the charges, and any bail conditions alongside a date for magistrates
Pregnantandscared,
Can I ask how you received charges, were they hand delivered or posted? Just wondering if charges have to be sent recorded delivery or registered post to make sure the recipient receives them??

Hi,
Could be a bail extension letter, the ones we received were in a hand written envelope through the post

Thanks clarkestaff,
Can I ask how others received charges, if sent through royal mail were they in official envelopes and sent recorded or registered to make sure they were received? The letter my oh has looks quite tatty and address is hand written.
Sorry if I repeat myself but I'm quite worried, my person is home tomorrow so I'll have to wait, I don't like opening his post xx

Ours was only one sheet and it just listed the charges but only amounts of images and categories with dates. It also said the date and address of court. But yeah could also be a bail extension? So it's not got a stamp?
I'm suprised the police know how to write!!!!!

Morning, it has the local police postal frank mark and is second class, wouldn't anything relating to court hearings be first class?
My person is home tonight so will see xx

Hi,
They always send things second class. Anything that we have received has always been in handwritten envelope and we've even had paperwork with coffee stains on it. Nothing has ever been pristine like you would expect official paperwork to be. Hope your day goes quickly until your other half is home.

I imagine they send things second class to keep costs down or in my partners case get him to come to the station to collect it.
Smile!! LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL!
That's tickled me this morning! :'D

Polly - good description of the police. Minimum effort that can create max stress for us families......
Polly that is an excellent description of the Police.
Smile I'm surprised they can write but from my experience they certainly don't know how to spell or use grammar correctly -I was very tempted to return the scruffy misspelt letter we received with the mistakes circled in red pen and could do better written on it!!!
Despite both ourselves and the solicitor asking for the charges letter to be sent to our new address not the previous one they completely ignored it and sent to our former address from where it had to be redirected so there was a delay in receiving it ....it was in a scruffy hand written envelope as well and the letter had torn edges and coffee stains

Ours wasn't posted (hand posted or by Royal Mail). They contact my partners solicitor and arranged for him to come down and be charged. Took all of ten minutes, he went in the back and did it and then came out with the oic who said "good luck to you" as we left.
Magistrates was two weeks later

I agree with you polly smile and seaside. Sorry I can't remember that far back regarding the charges and what envelope but I'd add to it they can't spell or type!
As more recently my person went in to add bank account to the SOR and the person on the desk said oh last time they've spelt your name wrong you could have breeched for this giving it the big one, officer had put say Haarry rather than Harry even when my person had handed the driving licence to copy. This different officer gave it the big one she doesn't make mistakes etc and she will get it right blah blah and low and behold printed it all out as he asks for a copy and completely changed his surname! Which he spotted and she gave the excuse its the last of her 4 long days. Meanwhile he can get breached for their fucups. They are beyond incompetent!

Thanks for responding everyone, I agree with police incompetence too!
After all my panicking (I haven't eaten since yesterday and chucked up in the night) it was a random letter stating what we already know!!!
Although I now know what I might feel like when charges do come, and they have to at some point. I've a massive headache and just want to sleep my way out of this :(

Keeping reaching out when you get anxious Betty - we're all here for you xxx
I had to be put in my place by Daffs yesterday over a daft little thing, but the little things can become huge if we don't reach out to those who understand.

PS - you also now know that charges won't be arriving on a golden coach with a footman presenting them *laughing emoji* :)
Big love x

Thanks Polly, I'm so glad I found this forum, I think it keeps me almost sane :)
I go off for periods at a time as I can become obsessed with what might happen and it becomes all consuming!
Almost Friday again hey, boy I'm ready for the weekend! xxx

It's so strange how things vary so much. The charges were indeed a hand written envelope but there were multiple sheets and information about court etc.
