With this becoming more frequent and happening so much more nowadays do you think the sentences will be amended in future? I just feel that fair sentences aren't given out especially when it's in the news that celebrities who have done this only get a conditional discharge!

I guess it depends how you define fair. It should never get to a point where grooming/communication/indecent images becomes the norm or sentences are a slap on the wrist. There are many many reason why people go down this route like addiction, their own person trauma and these things can be used as mitigation or in defence but at the end of the day the suffering and damage to the children and young people is huge, the demand for images driven up and that cannot be allowed to continue. I think education is needed and the taboo of porn and porn addiction needs to be lifted. Kids need better education and adults too about the dangers of chat rooms, porn, and the internet in general. While the internet is an amazing thing it's also dangerous. All crimes not just sexual ones have varying sentences, there are sentencing guidelines for most offences. Sadly the court room is a bit of a game, on the day it can come down to who's solicitor was best. With images I'm not sure you could have a one size fits all sentence because it depends on many factor like type of image, what's said in interview etc etc. In all crimes some guilty people get away with it and some ordinary less guilty dont. Celebrities dont always get away with things, like ordinary people theres an odd few that do.

Yes I agree however is more being done to stop the images getting on to the sites? Whilst I agree looking at images is a form of abuse, I dont see it as being more severe than the one taking the picture which is why a lot of men get caught up in this. They merely see the pictures, dont think anything of it and then next thing they know theres a knock at the door. Also there are a lot of animal cruelty pictures that get put online but how come people dont get prosecuted for viewing them. I cant even watch RSPCA adverts lol. Police need to distinguish those actively searching and those who are not. X

Forgot to add that no one knows what's going on inside a person's head. A social worker once said to me because my husband has viewed he is more likely to do something so technically if I watch Eastenders I am more likely to murder someone and bury them in a forest rather tha someone who doesnt. It's annoying that professionals have to think like that

Rainbow, that is a lot of nonsense from your social worker. Sex offenders have the LOWEST rate of reoffending. I think some social workers need educated.

Leesha, the scary thing is not only do legal sites have these images but so does Google images. Whilst my husband was on licence he was told it's ok to have porn just not to hide it. He was told never to just Google and search images as they can be on there. The police gave him a list of reputable sites but with his porn addiction he chose to just steer clear of porn. If you dont know what your accessing it's not worth it!

After conviction my husband has his phone checked etc however only been once since January! They were surprised that he hadn't visited porn sites again. Hes trying to stick to his order etc yet they are questioning why he hasn't looked. I thought that was the point of the order.... not allowed to visit sites like that plus it wouldn't look very good would it. Just been convicted yet still looking on sites

That's a joke. To have devices checked by police and then question why you haven't been looking at porn sites. My husband is still under investigation but he now only has a phone that has no internet access. He has no use of any other devices. He appears (I say appears coz obviously he is a dab hand at keeping stuff secret) to have gone complete cold turkey with the porn. I am cross to think that if someone is doing all they can to control their addiction, that the police would instantly think they were looking on another device, or whatever they suspect.

Sorry probably makes no sense, bit like this whole scenario. X

Sometimes the police ask the stupidest questions. They also said oh I see you've been on rightmove. Well yes we are looking to move. Also commented on the job sites he had been on. Well he had lost his job. Hes not going to sit at home waiting for a job to come to him. They really have no idea. I'm wondering if they do it to call his bluff and get him to crack x

Rainbow and lee1969

My blood is boiling. What is wrong with them. This attitude is not helping anyone. The education need a to start with the police I think. God forbid one of them ends up being hooked in this manor. I know what they have done is very wrong but let them have the chance to get sorted and lead a decent life with or without their families if they are doing all they can to address their offending. Grrrrrrrrrr. Having one of those days, by myself and too much time to think. Well that's not true, I have loads to do but can't focus.

Big sigh

I understand what they have done is wrong etc but professionals need to understand that there are people wanting to change their behaviour and realise what they've done. If they done get the support then they will be out of work and no where to live. How can we explain that to our kids. X

Thanks lee1969. It's a shame they are labelled as one. They need to distinguish the people viewing and the ones actually putting things on the web. You never hear about the police catching those ones x
