My son is in court on 11 July and his solicitor has told us to get as many references as possible. Several people have offered including my boss who has known my son since he was just 8 and his own manager at work. The trouble is nobody knows what to write and the solicitor has given any practical suggestions.
Can I ask if anyone knows what we should be putting in a reference. The only thing his solicitor told me is to address it to the judge and say what effect it has had on the family.
I welcome any suggestions.

You can Google what to write in a character reference for court, there a few bits that come up. It's really hard to know how to write one, we had the same issue. They need to write who they are, their job title if that relevant, how they know him and how long they have known him. Then it's useful to write a bit about him so for his boss he can say how he is at work, for you you can write about how he is as a son. I wrote about my partners autism and repetitive behaviours as well as saying about his positive role in our family and as a father to our children. You dont need to write about the offence or opinions on that. It's a character reference about him, to tell the judge/magistrates what type of person he is, show what support he has round him and show is value in society. So if he does anything positive, like charity work, helps you when you need it, is a positive person in someone's life. If he has any professionals in his life it's worth getting one from for example, therapist/social worker/support worker anyone like that, to show again what support he has and what help he has engaged with.
Thanks Maria that is helpful. My son is autistic too and is going through hell with this. He was arrested in September but it has taken until now to get a court date. He is in magistrates on 11th but it will go to crown. He is pleading guilty so no trial. We just hope and pray that the press don’t pick this up. My son already has many mental health issues and this is tipping him over the edge. It is such a worrying time.
