re prison
I am sorry to say but when my person was sent away, he was taken straight from the court to prison , i did not know where he was taken too and how long before i knew he was ok, i later found out from the solictor where he went and it was another 6 days before he called me in tears-all this time i did not know if he was ok.Prison visits are normally on a set day each week and last one hour.

My person is currently on week 9 in prison and was just moved on Friday to a different prison and both are working quite differently so I think it really depends where they go!
The first one he was in he was able to have 4 visits per month, each visit being 2hrs and they had visiting opportunities most days except one. Here, we booked the visits online but you can do it over the phone too. At this prison they let vulnerable prisoners and main prisoners have the same visiting times.
The prison he is now, the prisoners are responsible for booking their visits and is done on an internal booking system on each wing. They also work differently with how they limit the visiting time, so here they're allowed a certain amount of hours per month instead of a certain amount of visits. Visits can be either 1, 1.5 or 2hrs so potentially more visits if he spends less time with us at each one. At this prison, they also don't allow mixing of vulnerable prisoners and mains prisoners so visiting opportunities are more restricted.
Feel free to message if you have any other questions, happy to help if I can.

Hi lost4words,
Re:email replies - yes you tick a box to say you want a reply when you send the ema. The prisoner then get a blank sheet which they write on and then it gets scanned on by the prison and uploaded to your inbox.
visits - you can request certain days depending when each 'block' has visit time scheduled. Make sure you book in advance, they do fill up and it can sometimes take a few days for the prison to confirm the visit. Take cash if you want any drinks or snacks.
you can also do video calls - there is an app for this. They are great for inbetween visits.
please PM me if you have any other questions, I am happy to help if I can. X

Hi Lost,
Knowing that they will get custodial is awful, I know (and that applies for whether you are staying or going!). We were in the same position. The waiting is so stressful so big hugs to you, thinking of you.
You do get used to the 'new normal' to some degree. It is hard but there is light at the end of the tunnel in some way or another. It has taught me gratitude and strength, and I hope you can find some positives in what I am sure is a difficult time for you.
