I have no advice on the PIN and phone thing; I suspect the OIC has just forgotten or mislaid it!

I came to say that the 6 months quote is not true and it won't stop things with the CPS. I was told in January that there were two devices they couldn't access (both ancient ones belonging to kids who has forgotten passwords). OIC said six months then. Still haven't had them back. OIC also still sent off other evidence to CPS for charges.

it makes no sense to me, either they have the evidence to send things to CPS or they don't?!!

Sorry you're being messed around too

xx

In my OH case the prosecution wanted to destroy his smartwatch because they presumed it had a pin as they could not find anything. They could find anything because there was nothing on it. When OH solictor explained that, and there was no pin, the prosecution still lobbied the judge to destroy it just in case. Luckily, the judge was reasonable and said u cant open something with a pin if it is not pin protected. The computers they could not open as they were very old were destroyed as they said they could not risk anything being on them. Even though OH knew nothing was on these devices he agreed. But he had to sign to agree for anything to be destroyed.

The prosecution will try all sorts of things. X

I really wonder what kind of training these official police people get.

Our son was totally compliant at his arrest and gave all his passwords to the OIC. Fast forward a few months and he gets a call from his OIC hinting that he'd deliberately given them a false password and that they would be approaching his work to get the right one unless he gave them it. As his work are unaware of his offences at the moment, he was horrified and couldn't make any sense of what the OIC was saying to him. In the end she gave up and handed the phone to someone else who, within a few minutes realised what was going on (the mistake was at their end) and sorted it out. No apology and we were left very stressed by it all. Then, to cap it all, the very next day he had another call asking for his help with something else. And he helped them (he said he couldn't risk them telling his work so couldn't say 'on your bike, mate!')

(I may have already had a rant about this on here so sorry for repeating myself! We have a Top 10 of things to complain about one day. That one is only surpassed by the threat to send the local police round to our house to check we had no children here, brought about as we dared to ask too many questions about how to interpret the bail conditions.)

Thanks ladies,

It's maddening isn't it, we had the knock this time of the year in 2021 and all PINs were given then and none of them changed since then, but yet a plain clothes officer comes to the house to request the PIN for the fone, laughable if it didn't hurt so much xx

Yep, months after the initial arrest at which my partner gave his PIN, I received a phonecall to say he had given them my number because he was being sneaky and didn't want to give them his and he'd also given them the wrong PIN. The horrible officer made out he'd given them my number but also he was lying about stuff - so why would he get me more involved LOL? No. They're just absolute incompetent idiots half the time. He then gave them the PIN again and reiterated that he had given them his number if he actually read his notes properly.

Hi ,

It was the OIC who rang him back in march and said we'd hear in 4 weeks lol!!!

And it's now September and they're asking for his fone PIN. Do you think this would happen? We were told by the solicitor that when they chased it up they were told the CPS had been through everything and were going through everything for the second time! Do you think they're looking and can't find anything?? Xx

In our case the Gardai emailed our son asking him for the charger for his laptop. That was 3 months ago. It is nearly 2 years since we had 'The knock on the door' and we have not had any updates.

We've had this about 5 times - repeatedly given the correct pin and they've not been able to get into the phone. I'm like what do you want me to do ????‍??
