How long has everyones process taken from initial interview to the end of the investigation/sentencing?
It varies widely. My ex OH was arrested in December 2021 and trial is set for January 2024 unless a plea bargain is agreed.
Ours took 22 months x
My partner got the knock beginning of Jan 2021 and his sentencing is October this year!. It's such a horrible time being in limbo for so long
For my dad, the knock was June 2021, he's been on bail since October 2022 and in court later this month x

The knock was 2yrs and 8mths ago. It's been with the CPS since Nov last year, sitting in a queue. The waiting in limbo has been so frustrating.
Got the court date for plea hearing this week. It will be exactly 385 days between the knock and the plea hearing.
my guess is that it will be 1 year and 2 months in total once sentencing happens.

My persons case took 22 months from arrest to sentencing.
It will have been 611 days from knock to plea hearing for us
We are just starting this hell of a ride. 3 weeks ago it started. I really hope it doesn't go on for 2 yrs plus. It's so awful
We were lucky, less than 5 months from arrest to sentencing and that included 2 court hearing delays. (Communication with police decoy)

9 months for us so far...
15 months for us so far.
No end in sight.
No end in sight.
No arrest, a voluntary interview. 2 years ago. devices ceased 6 months later.
went to CPS august 2023. still waiting

There's such a variation. I wonder if its different in different parts of the country. I know this will sound crazy but I'm hoping it takes ages for my person.
From arrest to sentencing took about 22 months x
I was the same hycinth, I wanted it to go on a bit longer for financial security and also to love in a bit of a bubble of pretending it hadn't happened (despite my person having to live elsewhere, everything else was 'normal-ish'
However we have sentencing later this month, around 11 months after the knock, and I guess I'm now glad that we will be able to move forward and be out of the limbo as it is a terrible drain on my mental health/load
There is definitely variation between areas in terms of how long, likely outcome and likelihood of press coverage

I'm about to do some FOI requests to the various police forces, to see how long it takes them to examine digital devices, but I'm interested to know if anyone has experience of asking the police how long the investigation was going to take and were their replies accurate?
In my case, they told my son that it would take six months and it took them eight.

We're just 7 weeks in but if things can take so long how does that affect people looking for new jobs. My OH has been dismissed as of today. He's on pre-charge bail. Is back in Dec but this likely to be extended.
My oh was arrested July 2022 it's been around 16 months now since arrest, we were told in august I think it was, that his stuff had to be outsourced somewhere else due to the backlog but the place they were sent to is an average of 500 days to be checked.
the waiting for the unknown of what's to happen is the worst part, we're trying to rebuild our lives I have anxiety. trying to rebuild our life's it's difficult with this lurking in the background, I can't allow myself to be happy as I know it could come crashing down any moment.

Just want an end to it
Thank Q :)

I commented on this post a few months ago and my OH is still waiting for sentencing. It was supposed to be end of October but got relisted. When or if he goes it will be nearly exactly 2 years and 11 months since the knock!. I've stayed with my partner ( we've been together over 30 years) but I can honestly say these last few years have been horrible. Yes we've carried on with life and have had good moments but the anxiety I feel about the outcome is horrific!
The police told me months not years and when pressed estimated 6 months and they were pretty much exact in terms of how long the device checking took, the CPS then took about a month, then about a month on for magistrates then another month for sentencing
It must come down to location then. It really is so different from case to case x
12 months from the knock to sentencing for us
We were also told 6 months for items to be checked and returned!! They must of known that was bullshit....
its so frustrating I feel like I'm treated as if Iv done a crime as were all punished not just my oh. I feel like if more was done about these sites and they were also held accountable, then we wouldn't be this situation and there wouldn't be stupid backlogs.

edel my son was arrested on communication charges and not iioc. The OIC told him the investigation would take 6 months. Devices were checked well within this time frame but the case actually took 22 months from arrest to sentencing. It went to CPS and back to the police at least 3 times and I think that was the biggest delay.
It's been 2 years to the day from the knock to scentencing at the end of Jan

Our police said it would be over in 3 months but they were banking on a guilty plea where my oh has pleaded not guilty so we were 13 months to trial but court ran out of time.so only part heard so we are back in January so just under 14 months hopefully it will be all over, a lot of our time was wasted by police not giving our expert a date to examine phone, police had checked the phone within 24 hours, searched on Thursday charged on the Friday.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and so relieved its here. My son was arrested on Wednesday 22nd December, not charged but released with bail conditions, just concerning contact with minors. He was told he would probably next hear from the police in around 3 months. He and I have our own business, working with vulnerable adults. I'm actually hoping that the process takes years so we can carry on working as he has a wife and mortgage. She is, as we all are, absolutely devastated and in shock but has promised to stand by him. Reading the posts here it seems like the 3 months could be much longer?
All that usually happens after 3 months is they renew his bail. The majority of cases take well over a year from start to finish. X
Hi paperwhite
My OH was arrested in September and was back at the police station in mid December. He was bailed again for three months. The investigating officer told him he'd be bailed in three monthly slots and to get out there and carry on. That's about as far as we've got. x

Thank you so much for your replies, its much appreciated. I will pass the information on to my son and we will try and carry on with "business as usual"
