My fiancé, who was arrested and RUI exactly two months ago, was dismissed from his job as a Field Generator Engineer.

He is currently looking for employment and was advised by his liaison officer not to apply for any where a DBS is required, for obvious reasons.

Most field service engineer jobs do require one because often he has to go to schools, hospitals, care homes etc. However, he was wanting to get out of that line of work anyway because he was working far too many hours and severe stress from that contributed to (but doesn't excuse) his behaviour (possession of IIOC after using regular porn as a release and going down that flaming wormhole).

He is with a few agencies and applied for a few jobs via Indeed, just warehouse jobs. However, after being offered employment by one company via an agency, they have now asked for a DBS. We weren't expecting this as it is a warehouse job.

This has thrown us and made us wonder if all companies now require a DBS as a matter of course. In which case, will his arrest show up as he hasn't (yet) been convicted?

Anyone else have experience of this?

It shouldn't show up on DBS until convicted.

my OH passed their DBS when newly Rui

His eventual contract may have disclosure requirements, but if it doesn't, he won't need to tell them

Arrests and investigations shouldn't appear on standard or basic DBS checks. They would on enhanced checks but he shouldn't be going for that sort of job anyway. Police could potentially tell a new employer if they believe there was a public safety issue but that's unlikely for a warehouse job

My husband was working in a warehouse when he was arrested and lost his job, he was offered a job in another warehouse but they do yearly dbs checks due to the value of the stuff in the warehouse so decided to look elsewhere he ended up re training and did his lorry license and straight into a job the company actually paid for him to do the license. He is much happier in this job, no pressure from working in a warehouse and much laid back.

My partner lost his job at arrest (public sector), then found a job as a technician for a construction led company. They only required dbs depending on the project and site, wasn't a company requirement. Sounds bad but quote a few people who worked there likely had convictions and the company were not fussed.

So for jobs that needed a dbs my partner just turned down the work.

It doesn't come up when under investigation, and investigations can take years on most cases. Best to try to find a job hat also allows some flexibility to be able to book time of at maybe shortish notice. Ie court hearings and meeting with solicitors

Bumping this and wondering how everyone got on finding employment, and what sort of thing you looked for in adverts?

I'd be interested too. My person is unsure which path to take. He's more thinking about references as he was dismissed who would give him one.

He was thinking of going for his HGV2 licence x

Thanks all x
