Still waiting...

It has been nearly 5 weeks since we heard from the police saying that they are extending the bail conditions but they didn't know for how long then. Still waiting to find out how long they have extended it for. Does it usually take them this long to work out how long they are extending the bail for? They've basically left us to it but we are in limbo.
You can message me Dawn x
Hi Dawn,
I don't know why the police have said they don't know a new date as there's a set time line for bail renewal and they should have sent you an official form with the new date. That should happen even if they've told you on the phone or in person that it's being renewed so looks like they haven't done this, or it's got lost in the post.
I don't know where you are in the process exactly but the initial bail period is three months, which can be extended by senior police officers twice, up to a total period of nine months. After nine months, any further bail extensions must be authorised by a Magistrates’ Court. At least, the above is the official line but I've read posts on here where people talk about it being extended long past that 9 months by the police, not magistrates. so it seems to be handled differently by different forces although they should all be doing it according to the official outline.
Can you ring your OIC and just suggest that the form must have gone astray as you're still waiting for it? Then if it's their oversight they can put it right (our son's first renewal form was sent to his ex despite him saying twice that his new address was somewhere else and not to use his old home address.)

Hi Rainyday
We've had the initial 3 months bail, this is the first extension.
My OH is supposed to be phoning them to chase it, but he's dragging his feet. I would phone but I'm at work so not always possible x

My OH has just shown me the text he got from his OIC on 14 August saying he will be in touch with a date and time for his bail extension. Sounds like he hasn't done that x
I get so frustrated and mad when the police or solicitor or social worker say they'll do something and then just don't bother. They must understand how stressful it is waiting for info that is really important to us. Even a 'sorry I haven't got back to you' with an excuse would be better than just silence. It's so rude and thoughtless.
Hope you can get some info soon, Dawn xxx

Finally heard back from the oic after chasing him 3 days ago. He was a bit short with my oh saying he should know the date of the bail extension as it is on the bail form, which we haven't received, that is why he was phoning. It makes me mad with the way this officer talks to my oh, he was like that on the day this happened. Does he think if we already knew the date, would we be contacting him to find out it, we want as little contact with the police x
How very grim for you, I am so sorry to hear this.
It's annoying how powerless we are; my OH's OIC got shirty with me once and I wanted to complain but didn't want to do anything to make things worse in the investigation.
hugs to you

I know exactly how you feel, Dawn and K4 when you get told off for doing the right thing or daring to ask a question. I've come to the conclusion that it's a combination of feeling all powerful and being too self-important to admit that their work has been careless. I empathise with that fear of complaining in case things get worse, but it just exacerbates the OIC's bullying ways; they know how trapped we feel and that they can carry on with no fear of repurcussions. I wish we could be braver (I include myself saying this) as I know it's not right to feel so powerless. We deserve to be treated with respect, both our offending person and ourselves (who after all have done nothing wrong) plus the police should blooming well do their job efficiently and when necessary learn to say 'I'm sorry'. We can live in hope.......... :) xx
Yes, rainy day!!!
The total lack of empathy for my children (which was what he got shirty about) would probably be grounds for dismissal in any other job.
maybe one day we will get an apology.
I think I should like to volunteer (when I retire) to ride shotgun with women going through this and be an advocate for them with the police
