Hi all,

I'm so sorry to be back with the same issue again. He was made redundant in July and is having a difficult time navigating things. Applying for everything that he thinks shouldn't ask or require a dbs but keeps being hit with the unspent conviction thing at the last hurdle. This is leading to some difficult conversations and usually radio silence from potential employers.
A lot of agencies who have warehouse roles are asking the question, it seems like a blanket form for whatever role you're applying for. It's impacting both of us hugely, I feel like each time an interview comes up I think he's getting somewhere and then hopes are dashed pretty quickly.
He said the other day that it's almost like looking for a ban the box inside a ban the box because it's so hated and society as a whole do not believe in rehabilitation for these offences. Any tips or advice is appreciated please xxx

Thanks Seaside I have sent a message.

Inthemoment, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause you more worry. It would be good if there was some consistency in agencies, I know some people have found probation very helpful for employment xx

Look at the Unlock website.I'm sure they have a list of employers to avoid and ones who are willing to take on people with certain convictions

Even if they ask about convictions for warehouse jobs, it doesn't mean he won't get a job. My ex got a warehouse job through an agency who knew about the conviction. He had an interview with his new employer but I don't think they asked about it. He has struggled to find something that he is qualified in though but at least I can pay his bills.

Thanks Bluebell. Loulou this hasn't been his experience of agencies to be honest, they've all either not put him forward or completely ignored him from the point of disclosure. If you're able to drop me a message with info on what agency your OH went through I'd be very grateful please xx

Distressed and pregnant, got caught by my toddler and lent on the question mark key, not quite as panic level a worry as the punctuation suggested (although he is set to lose his job next week)

Toddlers and their love of causing havoc lol.

My person found employment through Asda last year working nights, they don't ask about unspent convictions so I doubt they ask about charges. Maybe try there for now until he knows what he's looking at in terms of sentencing etc. I cant advise on how long after charges this will happen because my person was remanded from arrest to sentencing so I believe it was all faster for him (just over 6 months start to finish) xxx
