Being released from prison
Notifications OFF
Hi all,
I think I know the answer to this but would really appreciate hearing from anyone with first hand experience.
The gov.uk site says:
"Before someone leaves prison: All prisoners get help preparing for life when they leave prison. In the last 12 weeks of their sentence, they’re given advice and support on..."
Does that mean a prisoner would know at least 12 weeks in advance if they're being released half way through their sentence?
Are there situations where the half way point in someone's sentence is less than 12 weeks away and they don't know if they're being released?
Thanks for reading :)

Hello,
Thank you for posting on the Family and Friends forum, we understand that it is not easy to post on a forum about these difficult situations. I can see that you have not yet had a reply on your post, hopefully someone else in a similar situation can reply soon with some support.
If you haven't already done so, I would also encourage you to contact our Stop it Now! helpline. The helpline is anonymous, confidential and free, on 0808 1000 900. One of our trained advisors will then be able to explore your situation in detail and provide some support and do their best to answer your questions. Our trained advisors deal with similar concerns to yours every day and will be able to talk these through with you and offer you the best advice we can.
I hope this has been helpful.
Take care,
Lucy

My OH received a form stating his release date. Which I therefore presume all prisoners receive
Right at the beginning of my sons sentence he was given notice of his sentence plus a date when he can apply for parole.
I believe before this date prisoners are given a package of support and they don't just release them onto the street.
I understand your fears Blue x
