Basis of plea / newton hearing

Anyone got any info about basis of plea, please?
Solicitor has mentioned it as an option to oh as he has not offended since early 2020.
I couldn't attend solicitor meeting with him and he's not explaining it brilliantly. Anyone got any case studies?
Feeling quite distressed as our first solicitors told us the images were of 16 y/o but it's now come out it's 10-13 y/o boys and we have a little boy :(
*Edit apparently it would lead to a newton hearing with a judge. It could give significant mitigation but if it doesn't go his way he'd lose his guilty plea benefit

Seems like it's sort of where you say you're guilty but on a specific date and it hopefully reduces the sent nce as you're not 'currently' guilty as in not currently offending and weren't offending at the time of arrest

Thank you I think his solicitor did explain but my oh was shocked at the age and gender of images changing from what previous (useless) solicitors said and didn't take it in fully.
I think it's basically to do with the fact he hasn't offended since 2019 or 2020ish but I'm not sure how we prove they beyond reasonable doubt. All images were found on an old laptop and new laptop was never used to offend (bought in 2020) but unfortunately I used the old laptop for a couple of zoom meetings when my webcam wasn't working (like a virtual physio appointment, stuff like that)

I personally believe the offending went on for years on and off but the CPS haven't attached any dates to anything found, except noting an access to the dark web in 2019. Apparently no dates attached to the handful of images found
