The bottom line is that they must protect children. BUT they should treat innocent people with respect. Unfortunately social services is so understaffed and underfunded I think the caring side has gone
Yes the main role is to protect children Ofcourse that is paramount however there must be some level of understanding to how some of these offences come about it's not purely black and white as some may think or infact how they treat us. Funding is a massive issue one in getting enough social workers that actually spend time and listen and also the much needed risk assessment completed on our people by relevant professionals however they don't want to pay so easier to have supervised contact or no contact to mitigate the risk.
They are stretched like every service I guess and it's the service users who are failed inc our children!

I'm so glad I won't have SS involvement now! Mind you when my partner got the knock my son was 15 so we had a bit of SS involvement but they closed the case, not heard from them since!. My son is 18 now! That's how long it's been going on for. I really feel for the women on here who have young children. SS involvement is hugely stressful and I know I wouldn't be cooperating of o had them in my life! The thing that bugs me the most is when I hear " minimising" hate it!
I was very fortunate with social workers;
the first informed me that it was voluntary and that I had control over contact.
The second one 18 months later was impressed with the level of research I'd done and upheld my decision to supervise contact wherever I see fit so no time restrictions or contact in the community as was being pushed for by PO.
As I also have children from a previous marriage who were under 18 at the knock but old enough to verbalise how I am as a parent this was hugely beneficial because the first sw was able to talk to them about their lived experience.
This being said I have still had things throughout my dealings with them that have annoyed me; the inability to properly note take and write reports being the main ones but also sending reports to other agencies before I had received them despite me asking for a copy before it was sent to their manager and other parties. In the most recent report of the case closing they've asked myself, my person and probation to go back to them at different times so he has to go back to them if we resume a relationship, probation have been asked to monitor the relationship and I've been asked to go back when/if he moves back in.
They've said that the local authority won't fund an independent risk assessment unless something drastic happens in my circumstances and I'm not able to care for our daughter. I've said on other posts that I'd like to see statistics on cost of keeping families on plans and legal proceedings vs paying for risk assessments.
I apologise to anyone who is or has had a horrible time with ss because my moans do seem trivial in comparison but I think it's important to share as it shows the lack of consistency between sw and areas too. I agree that they are underfunded and overwhelmed but we do seem like easy targets and we and our children deserve better xxx
