Hi all,

Just wondering what the difference is between one and the other?

I've seen cases on here mostly gone from magistrates to crown but some cases local to us have been done and dealt with solely at magistrates

i think as soon as there are any cat A images it would definitely go to crown court. Magistrates can only deal with fairly minor offences. I was told by my husband's lawyer that it's actually better to go to crown court as you get more experienced judges. But it definitely feels more scary and my fear was media presence if it went to crown court.

All cases start at magistrates court. The magistrate court passes cases to crown court. The type of cases they usually pass to crown court include those cases that are too serious for them to deal with, those cases that require a trial due to a not guilty plea and those cases where the sentencing guidelines indicate a potential sentence of more than 6 months (12 months for more than one offence).
Sadly the media attend both magistrates and crown court.
