Can he find a place to live?

Hello,
My brother gets out in a few weeks and he'll be staying with my mum but what are his chances of getting his own place?
Private renters wouldn't even look at him as he obviously doesn't have a credit file any more and can't explain where he's been for the last 3 years.
And I guess with the council he'd just be pit on the waiting list like everyone else.
my mum would like to add him to the tenancy so he can claim his portion for the rent to start with but she's scared in case the landlord won't let him live there.
It's such a big mess!
TIA!!

This is my fear. I've said it endlessly if my son is not supported with housing when he leaves prison, it's a potential park bench for him.....
nightmare.....
nightmare.....
Hey Lilypad,
I'm not massively informed on housing so not sure what documents are required to be able to claim housing benefit but could your Mum get a private tenancy agreement online, I know you can get the templates as my private landlord did one herself and I signed it? I know a lot of tenancy agreements do state the tenant isn't allowed to sub-let but if there's nothing in your Mum's agreement then she could look at that as an option. Xx

Hi, Does she know her landload? Sometimes you do and have a good relationship with them, sometimes it goes through an estate agent.
My family have properties and I think we would sit down and have a conversation with your Mum and Brother. Just to understand the situation and to clear up anything that may need to be on both sides. We may adjust the contract to protect both parties but I think over all we would be understanding and all about rehabilitation (although there is a reason i'm on this forum, so maybe I have more compassion)
Might be worth asking Citizans advise to look over the contract too (sometimes they can be very confusing)
Also if your Mum evicted him (I know it's Harsh) then that is the only way the council will take notice and go up the list. Otherwise, your right he will be at the bottom.
