Hiya peeps. IOC has informed that downloads now received ( PC and phone taken) and that they are being reviewed. What does this mean? How long can this take? Is there likely to be a second interview? Thank you for your support.

Hey Prudence,

Timeframes can vary a lot so could be weeks or months unfortunately. It's likely a second interview will be required depending on what is found. If invited for an interview it's important that legal representation is present, even if the interview is painted as being "an informal chat", which it shouldn't be but I've seen that happen before. Once that has taken place, the case will be sent to CPS for charging decision which again can take a while so try not to panic too much and take things a day at a time xx

Hi Prudence,

Yes, they will ask for a voluntry interveiw (depending if they have found anything) My son and his solicitor went with a prepared statement as he had admitted guilt in the day of arrest.

Thank you BaffledB and Just want to end it for your replies. My person was on on conditional Bail for 9 months then RUI no conditions. . Intial interview 'no comment' on advice of duty solicitor.
Can I ask of you both (and others) did you continue with a duty solicitor, at any second interview, or arrange own private self funded solicitor?
My person would qualify for legal aid but going forward I am struggling to decide as to continue with free representation or arrange own privately.
I'm not sure why, but I feel if you are intending to pleadi Not Guilty then private would be best as they will fight your corner more but if Guilty then it's a matter of getting the best possible outcome and damage limitation.

We decided to go private. Our son is autistic and just over 18 at the time of the arrest (socially and emotionally about 13/14 though) although he pled guilty as the images where there, can't get awat from eveidence (mostly age relevent, but there was sexual explotation of him too and he couldn't control what was being sent to him) we are going in with extenuating curcumstances. I wasn't happy with the duty, he was advised no comment but we found an IIOC solicitor and then went in for a voluntry with a lenghly prepared statement.

Prudence,

My partner had duty in the first interview who advised no comment and was great. He continued with the representation of the legal aid firm he was given, unfortunately for us it wasn't a great experience. The second interview, the solicitor didn't really offer much advice so kind of left my partner to be picked at - the judge at trial highlighted how unnecessary and poor the interview by the officers were.

We then got the worst barrister appointed who did things like include he had a cat A image found (when he didn't) in his draft defence statement and it ended up with me making his defence statement and then writing a complaint for all the other incompetences. Eventually the solicitors appointed a good barrister who actually paid attention and did what needed to be done. I know a few who stayed with their legal aid representation and were pleased with the service but I know some who weren't. I did actually call a few private law firms and have to say I wasn't blown away by first impressions.

Have you been for any meetings with the solicitors firm to discuss things further? I feel like you'll get an indication as to whether you feel confident with them from this.

Thank you BaffledB for your response.

Did they plead not guilty?

I have been thinking about arranging an interview with the solicitors firm that sent the duty solicitor. He is noted as a paralegal and at any subsequent police station interviews have already said they cannot name who will attend as depends who is available at the time. Sure, if I was paying they would detail a named person with experience of this type of offence and serveral years of service. It's hard to decide which specialist firm to go with.

For some reason I can't private message , keeps saying I have to post to activate account and I have already done that!

Would be useful to DM those (who agree to DM) on here that have paid privately to hear their reviews of the solicitors chosen.
