Hi all,

That we like it or not, sadly, we have no say in what's happened, simply because the media's decided to air the day of the knock and the day of (X's) arrest in a tv documentary.(X) wouldn't watch it, there's still too much pain and trauma under the bridge to this day.

Although the footage had been edited, it did show our family anonymously during the knock. Voices and names were also changed. The sentencing of (X) for downloading explicit images of children was a total shock, we knew what he did was unsavoury but we love him and will always love him. After serving 6 months, we felt the happiness of having (X) back home and soon enough some normality had slowly returned. No more prison phone calls, no more prison visits, no more worries about him feeling safe and eating properly...

We've all done work on ourselves as a family and we promised to be supportive to one another accepting we are only humans and mistakes made can't be undone but with family support and freedom returned (X) got a job and tried to put it all behind him.

New start, new man and a few smiles from time to time! His behaviour was exemplary, he attended all his probations appointments, had regular counselling sessions...6 months locked up and 6 months on probation, done and dusted. Now a year later the Media has come to haunt us, it just never seems to go away, no matter (x's) efforts. He knows he can't stop the Media airing the knock and his police interview as well so let's hope people don't recognise some features of our street, of our flat or anything else. I don't want to move out of my area... I like living here!

Oh my goodness that must just be horrendous for you all.

I don't think the media realise that everybody around the person is affected too by this.

I too hope that features aren't recognised and you can all just continue on with rebuilding your lives x

Oh SkinnyLatte that's just so awful for you. I can't begin to imagine how much anxiety, pain and distress the knowledge of the documentary must be causing to you and X. You have both done so well in moving forward. I really hope that the documentary is done in such a way that it is impossible to identify anything that links the story to X. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Just want an end to it

I'm so sorry, I actually feel sick to my stomach for you. All that rehabilitation and then you are stuck by this.

I'm so sorry, this is truly awful for you all. Especially when you have all worked so hard to move forwards. Thinking of you all.

............. To ya all lovely people ...........

Thank you all for your kind messages of empathy and compassion. It somehow helps to share our heavy load on Lucy F's forum.

Time's a healer and I truly thought things would only get better now that X's probation time has ended. Living our traumatic experience again on telly is just a joke really!

How dare them? How can they do this to us? They won't brake us!

What doesn't kill us will make us stronger

This is cruelty at its highest level. How on earth do these media people sleep at night knowing the destruction they have caused. How on earth are people expected to show remorse and try their level best to move on and better their lives and make a meaningful contribution to society. The press don't want these offences to be forgotten, they want the person and their families to be constantly reminded of the nature of the offence. I absolutely detest the press and since my husband's sensationalised media coverage have never so much as touched a newspaper since. I am so sorry you and your family have had to go through this, please try and focus on the hard work your person has done.

Sending virtual hugs. Xxx

Skinnylatte - just when I start to think I've heard everything........so so so sorry about this and I totally get how you must be feeling, vulnerable and traumatised all over again. (Occasionally I've seen footage on TV (usually in police fly on the wall documentaries) where you see arrests at someone's home and even before our dive into this awful situation personally, I thought how intrusive it was for people in the slipstream of the offence just for our entertainment and also how stigmatising for the offender when you see that it was filmed a few years ago.)

The media have no depths to their unconcern about anyone at all. But our concern for you and your family is deep and we have enough empathy between us all to hopefully carry you a tiny bit xxx

Keep strong - in my experience 'most' of the things you fear don't actually happen in reality, fingers crossed very tightly.

These men are serving their sentence - it's thejob of the authorities and police to monitor them. The film being aired must have been a terrible shock

No need for this continual witch-hunt ...... it's certainly not fair for their innocent families to be so terrified. These men deserve the chance to rehabilitate just like any other crime.

Hug sent to all x

Your strength and courage is amazing. You should be so proud of yourselves. Its terrible how the media believe they are just doing their job ,when in actual fact they are destroying people. Take care of yourselves. Xxx
