Getting devices back

My OH was arrested in Jan. Compared to others it all happened insanely quickly and he has already been sentenced. He asked his solicitor about the possibility of getting his laptop back from the police. They have already released his PC. The charges came from a Snapchat conversation so all on his phone & he says there isn't anything on the laptop for them to find.
The solicitor emailed him back today saying the OIC wont release it as it hasn't been triaged as he refused to supply the password for it. He says he did in his interview along with the password for the PC and pin for his phone. He has given the password to the solicitor via email to pass on as the OIC requested. I have no reason to not believe him when he says he gave them the password, especially as it's the same as the PC that they've already checked & given back. But surely they would have done it all to check there was nothing on the laptop before charges??

We have had the same. Trying to get the tower back as there is no mention of it on COS report so it's clean. Solicitor is chasing for us. They gave lap top and tablet back (all phone) but the tower is worth 2k. If they found stuff on it fair enough but If there is nothing then?? My person too supplied all passwords.
Hi,
He should try to get the court transcript as the judge will have made a statement about what devices were to be destroyed. In my person's case the judge made an error and ordered all devices to be destroyed but the OIC corrected that and we got back everything but his phone.
It did take a bit of chasing as I was told that my device was in my name but it wasn't and he had to collect it along with his others xxx

They really do know how to make a crap situation even worse don't they? The laptop has family photos on, typically the one device that isn't linked to icloud for automatic backups!
Distressed - I was in court and the judge didn't say anything about devices being destroyed?
Oh, that's strange I thought they did it in every case like this. The forensics team usually have ways of getting into devices to read them without passwords too and even in cases where the devices weren't working properly. Hopefully now that they undeniably have the password they will be able to check it but they definitely should have checked before sentencing if not prior to bringing charges xxx

Parkerpoo - he is a videographer and they didn't take any of his memory cards or external hard drives which he backs work up onto which we have always thought was strange. Although I'm slightly grateful for as there is probably thousands of hours of footage on them which would have delayed things for sure
