Friend of mine at work is going through frightening times as she waits for an operation for something that has the potential to turn out nasty.

I've shown her lots of understanding and reassurance over the past few weeks. She turned round to me this morning and said "there aren't many people in this world as kind and thoughtful as you" giving me a big hug.

She knows nothing about by troubles by the way. It just made me feel proud that I am helping her and the person I have become.

It felt good.

Well done, Smile, she's clearly a lucky lady to have you too.

I think being able to show absolute compassion to others whilst silently carrying this burden says a great deal about a person. She is lucky to have your support as is your son xx

This is such an indication how our awful situations can actually refine us in some ways - an incredibly painful process for sure, but something good being formed from that process.

Well done, Smile xx

The most compassionate and kind people are those who've suffered most in my experience. Just look at the women on here xx

Just imagine how much better the world would be if every work place had someone like you, Smile, in it. I only wish you worked with me.

What a lovely friend you are. I think we can all learn a lot about helping others and paying it forward, even when we can't share our own problems and concerns.
