Not sure if anyone can help but I wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation. My person is in prison serving a 14 month custodial and will serve 14 months on license for communicating and incitement online offence.

He has been considered a low risk whilst in prison and a medium risk when he's released. He has no restrictions on his SHPO regarding contact with children, all restrictions are online based.

On a recent assessment by social services to get contact with his dad whilst in prison, which was approved, the manger who signed off the report wrote that as he's a sex offender he will never have unsupervised contact and therefore will never reside with children.

My question is, if his SHPO doesn't mention anything to do with contact restrictions, do social services have the power to enforce never being able to have unsupervised contact and never residing with children?

Hi,

No, they don't have the authority unless they have or are in the process of taking you to court.
That's a very blanket statement to make and shows a level of personal opinion rather than sound professional judgment for your particular case xxx

Thank you, nope no court action is process. She also stated that "prison was no place for children especially with short sentences, but that's the mothers decision". Definitely has her own personal feelings and isn't doing a good job of hiding those to give a professional statement xx

Oh wow, she sounds like an absolute delight! I've visited family members in prison as a child (not for these offences) and there was never an assessment by ss done for me or their own children to visit. Admittedly things may have changed since then but if their parents were in for something else I do wonder if they'd feel the same. I'd be taking a look at the local authority website to see if her comments fail to meet their standards. Mine, for example, are supposed to take a holistic approach and not just look at why there is involvement at the time. Her blanket statements seem to be very much aimed at the fact it's an offence of this nature and perhaps not how he is as a father and the impact on your son being separated from his father xxx
