Husband got sacked today. We are devastated. He intended to resign at the disciplinary hearing but they've circumvented their usual process due to the serious nature of offences and the fact that sentencing was today.

I just don't know what to do or how he will ever work again. He worked there for 7 years

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. This is exactly what happened to my OH so I know exactly how you feel. My OH was disliking his job anyway so was going to look for something else before all this happened but then the realisation of it all hit him a few days after he was dismissed. He got quite down so just be prepared for that.

Sending you strength and support x

Thank you. He had asked for the opportunity to resign if they felt they could no longer employ him, and he expected them to follow the disciplinary procedure so thought he had more time, although I wanted him to resign weeks ago to preserve his references. We had sentencing yesterday too so I am absolutely wrung out and so is he

We just don't know what on earth to do next

It is so hard knowing what to do for the best. You must feel exhausted with it all. I agree, the references are the sticking issue. My OH emailed an ex colleague who had already left the same company but he hasn't responded as yet. We're thinking he may have heard what has happened and doesn't want to reply. I'm not sure what he will do for references now. Sorry if that's not very positive x

Oh Inthemoment I really do feel for you both. I remember so well the pain and anxiety I experienced when the same thing happened to my son. If he hasn't already done so it might be worth your husband contacting them to ask about references. My sons asked his employer during the meeting in which he was dismissed about references and they said they would still be able to give him a reference as there was nothing wrong with his work.

Thank you. Unlock suggested getting someone we know to do a reference request to see what they come back with.

I think he will start looking for warehouse work and suchlike, I just worry he will become even more depressed if he suffers further knock backs
