Hi hope everyone is ok. Just a question I have as worrying on. It's been 20 months since the knock about my ex partner whom I have two children with. I left him and live in our mortgaged house its due for renewal soon as we had it fixed for 5 year, will I struggle to get it renewed if he is one charged or two he is still under investigation? Not sure if this comes up on a mortgage renewal just worried about potential having to sell house and then being homeless don't think I could apply for mortgage in just my name don't earn enough.! Just in limbo with various things this being main concern. They have extended his bail I don't know how many times it's with cps currently. Thanks in advance.

It's an awkward one but usually you are fine to remortgage with the same provider - you may not be able to switch very easily once he is charged and certainly once convicted. This is from advice I read online rather than from a broker, solicitor etc

Just so much worry in limbo not knowing what is going to happen and can guess it won't go down to well for renewing as more of a risk so hoping it's not going impact having to sell up and rent in the near future.

@Ginluver I don't think you are asked that question if anyone is under investigation or charged - I took a new mortgage out with Halifax this year.

I certainly wouldn't disclose.

All the banks care about at the end of day is a) making money off you b) you not defaulting on your payments

Yes I agree don't disclose without being asked specifically

We moved house after charges but had the new mortgage agreed before charges. We remortgaged with Halifax (who we were with before) and they didn't ask any questions but had to see proof of income so we did it quickly before he lost his job, as this would have reduced what we could borrow below the amount we needed for the house

Ok thanks so much for your replies takes some worry off just thought it would be asked as I think when we applied for a mortgage as time buyers I'm sure they asked about convictions etc so hopefully different for renewing after a fixed term. X

I would renew sooner rather than later in that case. You can usually do it up to 6 months before it's due to run out without penalty

Dego try to do it whilst he still has a job and hasn't had a conviction

Yeah I'm a bit clueless with it all need to get in touch with a mortgage advisor I think after Xmas and get it sorted then I suppose it's one less worry but yeah makes sense doing it now incase he does lose his job.
