After 18 months of supervising my grandchildren without any problems and agreed by social services my DIL stopped my son access in January. Now going through the courts and she has now said I never took it seriously (totally a lie). Would you suggest I took some safeguarding courses so show that I am taking the role seriously. Where do I even start to find out what courses I could do x
Hi,
So sorry this is happening. Safeguarding courses can really help going forward, I'd look at the NSPCC as these will be more recongised in any proceedings going forward. I'd then say that due to concerns raised, I have invested in courses as although I feel I have protected them, I want to extend my knowledge so all parties feel comfortable in the current situation.
Where you are now though is about what you have in place that has protected them in the last 18 months. Obviously, the protection of children is paramount, and everyone has to feel they are comfortable and safe. so write down how their protection is your one and only concern while in your care. Such as
What do you do if you need to leave the room? such as toilet, door goes, you go to cook a meal etc
If they stay over what is the protocal and how does this keep them safe
What would you do if there was an emergancy and had to leave the house.
Try to come up with every eventuality and how you have dealt with it in the last 18 months. Make it factually. Hopefully, this will help you to prove that they're safe under your supervison.
Also contact the help line as they i'm sure will have some good websites etc. they told me about a safety plan of parents protect.
Hope this helps and Good luck

Thank you for the good advice. I've emailed both NSPCC and Stop it now for help with getting the right course. It just worries me that CAFCASS seem to be siding with her without speaking to me or my son x
